All applicants must have hands-on experience with complex mechanical components and systems; an ability to machine close-tolerance mechanical components using lathes, mills, drill presses, etc.; an ability to maintain basic laboratory electrical and instrumentation systems that include devices such as flow valves, solenoids, pressure transducers, thermocouples, and gas analyzers; and an ability to interpret and check drawings developed with standard computer-aided design tools. Candidates must have a minimum of a two year degree in mechanical or electromechanical engineering, physics or a related field or a minimum of five years work experience in a research laboratory environment and specialized training related to the job requirements.
