General Summary of Duties:
Greets, instructs, directs and schedules patients and visitors. Serves as liaison between patient and medical support staff. Prepares new patient charts for medical records. Assures complete and accurate patient information forms and insurance information.
Supervision received: Reports to Practice Physician or Practice Office Manager.
Essential Functions:
Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
Check in patients, verify and update necessary information in the medical records and/or computer information system.
Verify patient balances and account status. Refer delinquent accounts to Office Manager for follow-up.
Verification of patient insurance on all visits.
Input data - new patient demographic information and/or update patient demographic information.
Obtain and/or update current insurance waiver and release of patient information forms.
Maintain check on patients in waiting room and length of wait.
Assure the waiting room is kept in a neat condition.
Screens all calls, following clinic guidlines. Triage calls to physician, other medical personnel, business office personnel and support staff.
Schedules patient appointments as structured.
Takes messages following guidelines related to timeliness and accuracy and processes appropriately.
Places return calls as requested.
Performs other tasks at the request of Physician and/or Practice Consultant.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type patient information.
Excellent general computer skills specific experience working with electronic billing collection system
Ability to use EMR/PM software to perform billing and collections task.
Ability to use Microsoft Excel to organize, report, and analyze data
Ability to create documents in Microsoft Word
Well-organized and mature individual who is able to work well under pressure.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to effectively interact with insurance carriers, physician offices patients.
Screening and handling calls in pleasant and expeditious manner.
Superb customer/patient service skills effectively serve as clinic liaison to satisfy patient requests.
Excellent organizational skills.
Work cooperatively as member of clinic's front-line service team.
Respond to stressful/emergency situations in calm and effective manner.
Triage applicable information among involved parties when relaying patient information.
