Merchandise Associate

The primary role of Merchandise associate is to facilitate ease of shop for customers through efficient and effective merchandise processing (from unpacking through staging, presentation, pricing and replenishment).

Essential Duties

• Create an easy-to-shop ‘Clothes That Work’ service model by:
• filling and moving stock to floor, sizing product and assisting at all times in creating a store that serves the customer; greeting and acknowledging customers
• effective merchandising and execution of the Merchandise Assortment Guide (MAG), including adhering to the physical layout and presentation standards or modifying MAG requirements as directed
• ensuring productivity goals are met by maintaining stock replenishment, executing MAGs and flyer/promo set-ups, maintaining in-store fixtures and signage and ensuring backroom organization
• sales floor inventory replenishment; assisting Merchandise Coordinator in maintaining inventory integrity
• demonstrating a sense of urgency in flowing stock to floor; ensuring that flyer and key items are fully stocked on floor
• maintaining signage standards
• pricing of merchandise and price changes
• maintaining presentation standards, including re-folding, re-stacking, re-hanging, re-sizing and color blocking
• ensuring merchandise is staged and floor ready, including folding, hanging, pricing and security tagging
• assisting in special event set up and execution to maximize sales potential
• assisting Merchandise Coordinator with receiving and shipping of goods, including transfers, consolidations and debits as well as inventory integrity and maintaining stockroom organization to maximize productivity
• Facilitates ease and speed of purchase by:
• appropriately engaging customers to facilitate their ease and speed of purchase or linking the customer to an available Customer Service team member for a further value added experience
• maintaining fitting room standards
• assisting in handling inbound telephones, including requests from other stores/departments
• driving timely replenishment and maintenance of ease of shop standards
• Understands importance of and responsibility for achieving maximum productivity during each assigned work period
• Is able to step in as required and support customer service needs at "all hands on deck" times, including store recovery and maintaining fitting room standards
• Assists Assistant Store Operator (ASO) - Merchandise in execution of team action plan to address areas of strength and opportunity
• Understands and demonstrates knowledge of the value of top line sales and customer satisfaction as a result of being "in stock" in key items as shown by continually improving scores measuring in-stock position                                      
• Displays ownership
• Participates in all shift meetings and shares ideas as part of team cross training
• Be flexible to carry out work assignments for merchandising and customer service as required

Loss Prevention
• Supports any loss prevention initiatives

Housekeeping Standards
• Janitorial (dusting, mopping, vacuuming, wiping) including customer and employee washrooms, lunchroom, and orderliness and cleanliness of sales floor
• Assists with stockroom housekeeping, including janitorial, garbage handling and recycling
• Consistently maintains a clean workplace through regular janitorial functions

Skills/Qualifications
Education:
• Some high school education is required

 Knowledge:
• Customer service skills with a high level of awareness to surroundings customers, including excellent listening ability
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic reading, writing and math skills
• Basic computer literacy
• Cash, debit and credit transaction skills

Experience: 
• Some customer service experience required

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
• Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted and carry as required
• Ability to lift and turn repeatedly throughout the shift
• Ability to lift above shoulder and from floor to shoulder and floor to waist
• Ability to twist, turn, reach and work above shoulder level
• Safe ladder use for shelving and retrieving stock, floor displays and signage
