Mgr – Accounting II

Manages the activities of professional level accountants within various accounting functions. Primarily, these consist of general ledger, financial reporting, fixed assets, accounts receivable, invoicing, and accounts payable. Determines use of resources to meet organization goals and objectives. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization. Manages the coordination of the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. Determines organization objectives consistent with those of senior level accounting management and delegates assignments to achieve these goals. Interprets accounting policies in order to provide specific direction towards accomplishing department objectives. Initiates briefings and technical meetings with customers regarding accounting matters. Provides effective communications to all levels. Provides training, coaching, counseling and technical guidance to personnel. Acts as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and objectives and/or to resolve technical problems. Reviews and approves performance appraisals for subordinate personnel to direct reports. Prepares performance appraisals of department personnel. Reviews and approves recommendations for salary increases, promotions, upgrades, and any necessary disciplinary actions. Supports Human Resources policies, directives and practices. Prepares and monitors performance against a department budget. Maintains the integrity of the financial statements, ensuring compliance with International Accounting Standards (IAS) and US Government regulations (CAS, FAR, IRC). Reviews and approves subordinates' work to ensure compliance. Prepares advanced analytical worksheets and sub-ledgers that help support the financial statements. Ensures adequate internal controls, validating these controls in accordance with the BAE Financial Accounting Policies (FAP). Acts as accounting liaison with internal and independent auditors on accounting matters. Maintains compliance with policies and procedures, guarantees strong internal controls with appropriate segregation of duties and follows proper approval protocols. Interacts with multiple business areas within the business units as it relates to financial issues. Demonstrates newly acquired skills and keeps abreast of pertinent changes in accounting field. Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies

Required Skills:
Relevant Bachelor's degree (typically Accounting or Business Administration) or equivalent plus additional 11 years relevant experience; or relevant Master's degree plus 9 years experience; including 2 years of relevant management experience in a U.S. Government contracting business environment Applied knowledge of two or more accounting systems within the business unit. Ability to hire, develop, motivate, direct, and retain staff. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and delegate. Ability to plan strategically. Ability to manage projects, and develop budgets. Ability to effectively represent the Company. Excellent communication skills. Ability to give presentations to senior management and outside customers concerning functional area. Ability to effectively manage interpersonal relations and conflicts. Ability to use objectivity, creativity, and analytical ability to solve problems.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of accounting in a U.S. Government contracting environment. Master's degree in Business Administration. CPA/CMA certification Certain positions may require the ability to obtain appropriate Security Clearance. Professional certifications in area of responsibility preferred
