No Security Clearance Required about security clearance definitions Position Description This position is for the Space Launch Systems (SLS) rocket program in Huntsville, AL. This program needs a high-energy senior Materials and Processes engineer in the area of Chemical/Contamination with extensive program support experience, preferably on launch systems or other NASA products. Successful candidate will: establish standards for specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes; establishes standards to qualify new and replacement materials, parts and processes to meet program requirements; reviews and approves test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements; coordinates complex analyses to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts or processes. This engineer will lead activities to ensure designs are compliant to program-approved MP plans; lead the identification of requirement-compliant processes for drawing notes; support supplier SDT's, PDR, SDR, CDR, requirements TIM's, Systems SRR, SDRL's.. Technical + Analytical Skills Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the business unit level. + Contamination Control Prncple Advanced knowledge of contamination control principles to translate end item system requirements into contamination control plans and oversee and verify implementation. + Corrosion Principles Advanced, expert knowledge of corrosion principles (such as crevice, stress, dissimilar metals). + Engineering Processes Advanced/expert knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Advanced/expert knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). + Inorganic Chemical Processing Advanced, expert knowledge of inorganic chemical processing (such as chromic acid anodizing, phosphoric acid anodizing, sulfuric acid anodizing, etching, plating). + Materials Engr Principles Advanced, expert ability to apply knowledge of materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems, sub-systems and designs. + Organic Chemical Processing Advanced, expert knowledge of organic chemical processes (such as top-coating, priming, surface cleaning). Basic Qualifications For Consideration Do you currently reside in the Huntsville/Madison Alabama area or are you willing to relocate to the Huntsville/Madison Alabama area? Do you meet the criteria described in the Typical Education / Experience section of this requisition? Typical Education/Experience Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years experience, Master's with 12 or more years experience or PhD with 9 or more years experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information Experience desired in the following areas: Material science Finishes Corrosion and Corrosion Protection Thermal protection systems New program start-up Materials and process specification systems, especially the Boeing STM/STP/DPI/DPM system. Some travel would be required to support supplier audits and reviews as well manufacturing and assembly support.
