The Head IPS and the IPS management team are responsible for the continuous and active management of all risk exposures within their area of responsibilities and for ensuring that there is an appropriate balance between risks and returns.
The Operational Risk Controller - IPS is responsible for providing an objective check on risk-taking activities to protect the Firm's reputation and its long-term financial results by focusing on material risks.
The Operational Risk Controller ? IPS carries out the following key tasks:
Support the Function's Fulfillment of its Risk Management Obligations

Partners with the business in identifying and assessing key risks and in defining the function's risk appetite in accordance to its earnings capacity.
Partners with the business in developing and implementing well managed business processes.
Raises risk awareness by illustrating potential implications of material risks on other functions and the firm.
Supports the business in developing new business proposals and the implementation of significant changes to existing businesses or processes.
Advises the IPS management team in its fulfillment of responsibilities under the Firm's Operational Risk Framework.
Guides the function's establishment of complete and effective policies, procedures, objectives, operating standards and metrics for controlling business risks.
Monitors whether established risk management standards are being followed and assesses their effectiveness in managing risk in accordance to the defined risk appetite.
Serves as a liaison with other control functions (Compliance, Legal, Accounting, New Business Control, Controlling and Credit Risk) to address all risks identified.

Risk Identification, Assessment and Reporting

Conducts independent or requested risk assessments of established businesses or processes to identify potential or emerging material risks.
Conducts post implementation assessments of newly implemented businesses or processes to verify the effectiveness of risk management processes.
Conducts stress scenarios on significant business lines to anticipate the impact of adverse market conditions or events.
Observes industry events and pro-actively assesses relevant business processes.
Recommends changes in identified weaknesses in processes, procedures and systems to mitigate, reduce or eliminate excessive operational risks.
Reviews and independently evaluates the function's risk assessment process and the development and reporting of actions to address operational risks.
Ensures that IPS provides transparent and complete reporting of key risks.
Provides input to the monthly Divisional Risk Report.

Experience

10+ years of experience with a leading financial institution.
Thorough understanding of the international Wealth Management Business and Investment Products and Services function and its operational activities in particular.
Substantial experience in risk management, risk control, audit, financial analysis, legal or compliance.
Substantial experience in the analysis of business processes.

Track Record of Success

Shows strong partnership skill with the business to understand how changes in business activities and strategy may affect the forward looking risk profile of the firm.
Has a deep understanding of significant risks that the business is exposed to and is able to connect external events, market events and internal changes to these risks.
Has shown the ability to interface and communicate effectively with senior management while maintaining independent points of view to protect the Firm's long term financial results and reputation.
Is able to challenge the status quo respectfully to advance Firm goals and objectives.
Executes and supports the Firm's strategy and initiatives.
Has shown the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities quickly among competing or conflicting demands.
Has shown the ability and willingness to take decisions based on incomplete information and to execute accordingly.
