Operational Risk Controller – Trading recruitment
Operational Risk Control (ORC) has a team of Operational Risk Controllers for each Business Division covering front-to-back risks. To complement the Business Division aligned structure, the function is establishing specialist teams, which will look at the significant risks facing the Bank on a cross-divisional basis. One of these teams will be the Special Analytics and Investigations Group.
The mandate of this group will be to (i) develop and implement analytics complementary to those already in use within the UBS businesses to identify risk hot spots (ii) target the hot spots identified through focused, high intensity reviews and (iii) develop and implement additional techniques to assess the robustness of UBS internal controls, including conducting stress tests of the internal control environment. All team members will be expected to contribute to all dimensions of the team's activities. A mindset to challenge status quo and consensus is essential.
The Specialist Analytics Investigations Group is a team, reporting directly into the Global Head of Operational Risk Control, with a mandate to develop techniques to identify and investigate potential operational risk pressure points within the organization. The successful candidate will focus on the trading environment within the Investment Bank (IB) and will be required to:
- Develop and monitor metrics to identify areas of higher risk and will also hold the primary responsibility within the team for the planning and execution of targeted reviews and control stress tests within IB.
- Provide support to other team members on specific projects, as dictated by priorities, potentially outside of the IB area.
- Advise and partner with other team members developing core data acquisition and analysis capabilities.
- Develop and contribute to innovative approaches to test the control environment, in particular “special operations” aimed at directly stressing existing controls.
Requirements
- Very strong knowledge of the trading environment within Investment Banking (IB), including systems and processes.
- Given the need to collaborate with other team members on a project basis, the ability to operate with a cooperative spirit within a small team under tight deadlines is essential.
- Functional experience (in particular trading, but also risk control or audit) would be advantageous
- Self-starter and self-motivated individual
- Deep expertise with at least a number of core risks relevant for IB, including trading risks
- Ability to innovate and challenge existing systems and processes
- Ability to lead projects and deliver to tight deadline
- Credibility when dealing with stakeholders in an IB Front Office environment
- Ability to clearly articulate complex issues and concerns in both verbally and in writing
- The ability to perform complex data analysis (including data mining) across a broad range of data would be a strong asset.
