Job Summary for Oracle Database Administrator: Responsible for designs, installs, maintains and upgrades development, test and production databases using expertise in database administration, database monitoring, tuning, logical data modeling, and physical database design for Oracle. Successful candidate understands the principles, theories, practices and techniques of the systems development life cycle, database design, routine maintenance, process scheduling, security, and backup/recovery. This position is accountable for the overall performance of the enterprise's database environments. Works closely with multiple departments including application developers to define and resolve information flow and content issues.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for basic management and support of high performance and highly available database platforms and systems. Managing multiple Production, Development and Test Oracle database environments of different releases. Proactively monitors the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of Oracle development including code reviews to ensure that developed database code is in compliance with the Cricket standards. Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to Change Control Board
  • Responsible for Oracle database performance analysis, capacity planning, system sizing and ongoing maintenance/tuning to ensure maximum performance. Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that is the backbone for Cricket's success.
  • Responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of database instances including backup and recovery
  • Produces reports and queries on ad hoc basis. Validates the findings and results against requirements and ensures proper scope and access to data. Confirms and documents positive destruction of obsolete data.

    Education:

  • Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, technical discipline, or relative work experience required
  • Oracle Certified Porfessional preferred

    Industry Experience:

  • Administration and design in a large 24x7 SQL Database environment required
  • Wireless, telecommunications, high tech, distributed corporate environment preferred.

    Job Requirements Required:

  • 7+ years experience with Oracle and strong knowledge of Oracle 10G/9i
  • Experience with performing database administration tasks including Oracle installs and patches, setting Oracle configuration parameters
  • Experience with troubleshooting monitoring Oracle servers
  • Must have Oracle backup and recovery experience
  • Excellent Performance Tuning Experience
  • Familiarity with Oracle 10G/9i features
  • Understanding of UNIX and Linux Operating systems and shell scripts
  • Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Candidate must be able to work both independently and as part of a of a development team to accomplish overall plans and objectives.
  • Experience with troubleshooting monitoring OLTP/Data warehouse Oracle servers
  • Database upgrade/migration
  • 24 x 7 production support and support functions such as checking for table free space, checking for fragmentation, checking on nightly/weekly backup status on a rotating schedule
  • Capacity planning experience
  • Have prior knowledge of change control systems
  • 2+ years of Oracle RAC experience
  • Extensive experience in setup/configuration/maintenance of physical standby databases and Data guard switch over/fail over scenarios
  • Experience in administering large databases (TB in size)
  • Must have a solid understanding of Oracle streams / advanced replication.

    Job Requirements Preferred:

  • Experience with Data Integrator and Business objects would be definite plus
  • Understanding of Linux and Unix operating systems
  • Understanding of SOX compliance and scope
