DePuy Inc, is currently recruiting for a Packaging Design and Development Manager located in Warsaw, IN.

DePuy, Inc. develops and markets products under the DePuy Orthopaedics, DePuy Spine, CODMAN and MITEK brands. DePuy Orthopaedics and DePuy Trauma and Extremities provide products for reconstructing damaged or diseased joints, and for repairing and reconstructing traumatic skeletal injuries. DePuy Spine facilitates fusion of the spine and correction of spinal deformities. Codman provides for the surgical treatment of neurological and central nervous system disorders through products such as hydrocephalic shunt valve systems, implantable drug pumps and micro-surgical instrumentation. DePuy Mitek offers innovative devices in sports medicine for the treatment of soft tissue injuries.

The Manager Packaging Development Manager is responsible for the management of a team of packaging engineers/designers, and technicians, and assuring the development of packaging systems to support the franchise New Product Development projects, Franchise initiatives, manufacturing teams and customer needs.

For new product development package design, the primary ownership areas are capability build, human resource deployment, technology exploration, the investigation and development of compliance, discovery, planning, and development for new product packages, and review of design changes in the area of product packaging.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions)
Develop and lead strategic packaging initiatives for orthopedic DePuy operating companies in support of the long-term goals of the DePuy franchise. Create the vision and strategy for the cross franchise team.
Develop strategies related to meeting new and changing global regulatory requirements related to packaging. Develop work plans for team members to include assignment of project priorities responsibilities
Understand and hold the organization accountable for commitments to projects. Provide project oversight/planning and is accountable for results (time and budget commitments).
Support and empower project teams to provide compliant, high quality packaging solutions.
Enhance the team's technical skills. Drive implementation of new technologies, as appropriate, across the franchise at internal and external manufacturing locations.
Lead a team to deliver on all NPD initiatives.
Partner with RD teams and departments, Quality, Marketing, NPI, Operations, and Regulatory in the development and manufacturing integration of new products and processes.
Liaisons with manufacturing locations to drive standardization, troubleshoot issues, and roll out new packaging solutions.
Support and/or drive packaging component supplier relationships for improved service, quality and compliance.
Manage supplier packaging validations

Budget planning and management of capital and expense. Exhibit passion and enthusiasm for innovation and demonstrates visionary behaviors.
Identify areas for improvement. Identify new technologies, drive innovative applications of existing technologies.
Model cross functional teamwork and establishes a network in area of expertise within JJ.
Participate in cross sector packaging harmonization projects/committees.

Qualifications

This position will require a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. A degree in Packaging is preferred. A Master degree is preferred. A minimum of 7 years experience working in medical device industry and a minimum of 3 years experience managing direct reports.
Experience with testing packaging systems, packaging designs, technical knowledge of packaging production processing equipment, GMPs, packaging standards, such as ISO11607, new product development process, 6 Sigma black belt preferred.

Proven success in: Customer focus including VOC, Program/Project Management, Accountability, Process orientation, Strategic Thinking. Excellent negotiation skills, ability to effectively work with peers, strong leadership and people development skills are required and analytical skills, proven business acumen are also required.

Ability to travel, domestic and international, up to 15%.
