Position:
Packaging Engineer
Reports To:
Senior Packaging Engineer/Engineering Manager
Responsibilities:
· Design protective packaging for commercial refrigerators to ensure product integrity under varying shipping and storage conditions.
· Test, analyze, and selects materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness.
· Design/troubleshoot all existing packaging and skids for existing products.
· Generate cost saving ideas while maintaining superb product performance.
· Create engineering drawings and specifications for new products.
· Work with Purchasing and Development Engineering to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging.
· Advise employer on efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, and new equipment proposals.
· Develop internal testing standards based on industry standards.
· Work with Purchasing and outside suppliers to test and approve various tapes for packaging and production improvements and cost savings
- Estimate production costs, cost saving methods, and the effects of product design changes on expenditures for management review, action, and control.
- Confer with vendors, internal customers, and management personnel regarding purchases, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
- Deliver quality engineering solutions to internal/external customers.
- Lead cross functional Teams to find and correct issues.
- Work closely with line leaders to troubleshoot daily production line issues.
- Work closely with distribution leaders to troubleshoot warehouse storage issues.
- Work closely with Shippers to prevent shipping damage in the TL and LTL environments
- Work closely with Internal Distribution and Traffic Departments to resolve issues.
- Work closely with Quality to verify that production is packaging the units correctly and to resolve external customer issues.
· Work closely with Customer Service and Sales to ensure safe product delivery and quick responses to customer issues.
· Analyze competitor packaging.
- Works well with Design Engineering to develop packaging for New Product Development
- Works well with outside Suppliers to test and implement new products
- Works with internal customers to improve product protection
- Works well with all functional areas at all levels in the organization and a proven ability to implement packaging improvements with production workers and supervisors
Qualifications:
Required:
- Four year Engineering Degree, preferably packaging, industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- High Level of understanding of the Protective Packaging environment and experience designing and improving protective packaging
- Experience leading cross-functional Teams to find and correct the root cause of a packaging issues
- Excellent project leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, EXCEL, and Outlook) and AutoCAD
Preferred:
- Minimum 3-5 years packaging experience
- Experience developing protective packaging for HVAC related products
- Experience developing substantial Cost Savings projects while maintaining product integrity
- Experience developing Sustainable Packaging
- International Safe Transit Association Certified Laboratory Professional (CPLP) or above, or equivalent experience
- Experience designing packaging using corrugated, EPS, and other packaging materials
- Basic understanding of fabrication and assembly processes, preferable those used to produce refrigeration or HVAC related products.
