Paint Supervisor II Operations

Position Summary Employee oversees skilled maintenance and repair work within the painting trade and is responsible for supervision of all paint shop personnel. Work requires initiative and judgment. Responsible for supervising an Operations team, ensuring cost, schedule, and quality goals are realized for an assigned area/product line/work cell. Duties and Responsibilities * Supervises paint department employees for 2 local sites; * Duties include planning, scheduling, organizing and directing work, and training personnel * Recommend applicants for employment or for discipline, termination or retention. * Teaches and enforces safety regulations. * Monitors jobs to insure quality and compliance with job standards. * Estimates the cost of various jobs. * Analyzes service requests to determine proper skills, materials, tools, methods, time and personnel requirements. * Investigates employee injuries and assists in preparing injury reports. * Orders and purchases tools, equipment and supplies. * Maintains records of jobs performed, departmental charge codes and hours worked by employees. * Recommends improvements, changes or new techniques and procedures. * Insures proper equipment and supplies are available in the stockroom to complete a variety of jobs. * Coordinates activities with other trades areas on jobs requiring joint services. * Ensure product/service quality through proper utilization of resources and adherence to applicable standards * Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's polices and applicable laws and regulations * Lead activities to resolve issues and problems, identifying root cause and effecting appropriate corrective action * Monitors and enables internal and external customer satisfaction * Drives continuous improvement through deployment of best practices, such as Lean Six Sigma * Maintain and continuously improve areas, which impact on Team Member safety * Hires, manages career development, and assesses performance of assigned team members * Assist in the development of budget and manages activities to accomplish financial objectives * May coordinates team member recruitment and selection, career development, and performance assessment * Identifies and assesses risks and deploys proactive mitigation plans * Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization * Process oriented individual that can build a team of professionals * Continuous improvement objectives geared to building trust, a strong employee foundation and high productivity * Self starter willing to be engaged in each of the team activities and solutions * Works well with peers and others in the organization * Quality background in paint a plus * Detailed oriented, documentation focused. Education and Experience Required: * Minimum 5 years experience supervising applicators/blasters in the field or paint shop * Minimum of SSPC Level 2 Coating Application Specialist Level 2 qualified * NACE Coating Inspector Level 2-Certified a plus * Experience with Industrial Engineering concepts and 5S/6S techniques * Knowledge and familiarity with standards (ISO, AS, etc) * Excellent interpersonal, leadership, listening, presentation, and communication skills * Paint requirements - Knowledge of process, equipment, techniques, safety requirements, chromate chemical and cleaning processes * Supervisory experience - 7 plus years directly related to maintaining budgets, man-loading, metrics, training, quality performance, Lean initiatives * Lean training green or black belt experience / certification required. * DOD paint knowledge preferred but will accept commercial applications * Must be able maintain two locations with supporting team of M.E and Q.E * Works well with peers and others in the organization * Quality background in paint a plus * Strong technical background in paint required DRS Technologies, Inc. is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
