PATIENT ACCESS REPRESENTATIVE

POSITION SUMMARY
Establishes the type of visit for all patients and assigns patients medical record numbers, when appropriate. Schedules required appointments appropriately and accurately without schedule conflicts. Enters all required information including, but not limited to, patient physical restrictions and description, reason for appointment and limitations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive)
Answers busy multi-line telephones, routes and transfers calls appropriately. Registers patients in Hospital System (MS4). Ability to provide excellent customer service and follow through skills, as the initial contact for the Orthopedic and Spine Institutes at St. Vincent Medical Center .
Oral communication skills to receive and convey information clearly and concisely. Collects accurate information regarding patient demographics, insurance coverage and benefits, patient and physician availability and the type of appointment scheduled.
Schedules appointments in EMR (All scripts) at a time that is convenient to the patient and optimizes the appropriate hospital resources. Informs patients of applicable appointment preparation instructions and mails new patient information packet.
Able to verify insurance. Familiarity with the insurance contracts, their requirements and authorization needs to advise patients.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Must provide proof of LA City Fire/Safety Card within 30 days of employment. Strong organizational skills including the ability to multi-task; customer service skills; communication skills, verbal and written. Must have fundamental working knowledge of eligibility and authorization requirements of third party payors including state and federal programs. Basic understanding of medical terminology. Working knowledge of EMTALA, HIPAA, JCAHO, and Title 22 regulations. Ability to interact effectively with a variety of behaviors including fear, hostility and non-cooperation from all customers (physicians, patients, and hospital staff). Basic mathematical skills sufficient to calculate patient financial responsibility. Ability to work in high pressure, fast pace work environment. Bilingual (English/ Spanish or English/Korean). Hospital-based registration or billing experience preferred.
