PB and CCP Risk Manager
The principal responsibilities of this Director/Vice President position within the Counterparty Concentration Risk team are to lead, manage, and execute the global counterparty risk management program which focuses on activities related to Prime Brokerage and derivatives central clearing. The position will serve as RQA’s primary coverage for the risk management of related activities, including responsibility for the following:
- Coordination of the review and approval process for prospective and existing Prime Brokers, Derivatives Commission Merchants, and Central Counterparties; leveraging the expertise of team resources and business partners.
- Identification of direct and contingent credit/counterparty risks and exposures arising from Clients’ and/or the firm's activities and operational processes related to prime brokerage and derivatives central clearing.
- Measuring and monitoring portfolio-level and aggregate exposures to respective legal entities and groups.
- Providing guidance and supervision of credit-related issues/terms for legal documentation governing the relevant relationships and transactions.
- Ownership of the RQA Counterparty team’s working relationship with central clearing and prime brokerage specialists across the firm’s business and functional groups, and drawing upon appropriate team resources when required.
- The key internal partners include the Trading and Liquidity Strategies Group, Legal Compliance, and Investment Operations.
- Collaboration with Technology and Operations partners to build out risk controls and reporting capabilities.
- Service as a team liaison and source of risk expertise for regional portfolio teams and operational groups, specifically communicating and implementing applicable counterparty risk policies and escalating issues.
- Communication of material counterparty risks and exposures to senior management, corporate governance bodies, and regulators.
- Protecting the firm's reputation.
- Software skills (Excel, Power Point) are required.
Qualifications
The candidate should have extensive experience in the field of risk management and provide a specialized focus on entities engaged as (and exposures to) Prime Brokers, derivatives clearing agents and central clearing platforms. Candidates should have an outstanding record of professional and academic achievement and demonstrated interest in tackling difficult real world problems related to the investment management business. The position requires outstanding interpersonal, leadership and oral/written communication skills. Strong analytical skills, a keen attention to detail, a solid work ethic and the ability to work effectively as part of a global team in a fast-paced environment are important characteristics. Previous work and management experience in the financial services industry, specifically related to Prime Brokerage and Financing, derivatives operations, and/or central counterparties (CCPs) is preferred. Knowledge of current financial services regulation, planned reforms, and margin models and practices including netting and collateral controls is highly desired.
