POSITION SUMMARY: With a wide range of knowledge, maintains and provides complex technical support, testing and troubleshooting for the telecommunications of the network, including all telecommunications hardware and software for the network operations center. JOB DUTIES: Create / provide accurate performance statistics in direct support to the WAN and Fault Managers. Act on receipt of requirement; Research technical information available to determine what performance information is available on the equipment. Decisions / research need to be made to determine what performance criteria information would be useful to collect, and what protocols are available. Design and implement performance reports, spreadsheets and/or graphs as requested by the customers; Automate reports / collections in direct support to the WAN. Maintain life cycle support for the performance product, files, tables, graphs, etc. Review performance reports and graphs for accuracy. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, tests, recommends, and implements network, file server, mainframe, and workstation hardware and software. Consults with users and evaluates requirements, recommends designs, provides cost analyses, plans projects, and coordinates tasks for installation of networks. Analyzes and resolve technical problems for established networks. Ensures that all routers and bridges are properly configured and maintained. Provides network documentation, training, and guidance to computing system clients and programmers. Serves as technical specialist in network problems and emergencies. Troubleshoots and resolves network production problems. Conducts technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system. Recommends network solutions for short-, and medium-range network projects. Installs, configures and maintains network components. Determines plan layout for new hardware or modifications to existing layout. Installs, upgrades, and configures network printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services. Establishes user profiles, user environments, directories, and security for networks being installed. Works as a team member with other technical staff, such as systems to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems. Works with vendors to resolve complex network problems. Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network. Documents network problems and resolutions for future reference. EDUCATION EXPERIENCE: Typically requires bachelor's degree or equivalent and five to seven years of engineering experience. SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment.
