Physical Sugar Trader
Candidates should have proven capability actively trading the physical markets, with a solid understanding of the commodities derivative markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Trading raw, refined and white sugar throughout the global and Indian domestic markets with the objectives of achieving revenue and profitability targets.
- Devise and implement commercial strategies in order to grow the sugar trading business and increase the customer base; especially for the Indian market.
- Negotiate contracts to agree prices, quality, delivery and specifications.
- Provide input into the development of the company’s sugar trading strategy; especially for the Indian Sugar market.
- Monitor supply and demand developments, movements, and regional sugar policies.
- Monitor relevant material and maintain current market knowledge of trends and market conditions in order to identify potential investments and review financial positions.
- Review transactions to ensure accuracy of information and compliance to regulations and governing agencies.
- Build commercial relationships with customers and government entities - manage a large portfolio of complex and diverse customers.
- Manage and report counterparty risks associated with contracts including in-depth understanding of customer and market risk, due diligence surrounding contracts and monitoring of customers’ financial strength relative to payment performance.
- Ensure timely execution of contracts and delivery of shipments to customers, by investigating and resolving logistics issues.
- Control costs by evaluating freights, bookings and selecting most cost-efficient and reliable route of shipment.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in physical soft commodities (Sugar preferred) managing trading positions.
- Highly numerate and analytical.
- In depth knowledge of current trends in world commodities trade.
- Degree/Masters Qualification or equivalent, preferably in finance related subject.
- Business fluency in English is essential and a further Asian language is highly desirable.
- Good understanding or previous experience trading in the derivatives markets will be beneficial.
- Personally equipped to work in a fast paced, pressurised environment with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Able to work on own initiative and willing to take timely decisions.
- Proven ability to work well under pressure.
- Driven with an eagerness to develop in the organisation
- Willingness to be a team player before, during and after trading hours
- Excellent communication skills and cultural awareness to successfully manage a diverse portfolio of clients and suppliers.
- Understanding of shipping logistics and documentation
- Willingness to travel at short notice to any destination in India or worldwide as required by the business.
- Open to be based outside Mumbai
