Piping Designer
Location: St Johns, NL A1C6C9
Piping Designer
Responsibilities:
- Prepares drawings and sketches using CAD (Computer Aided Design) workstations, as applicable, working closely with other Designers, Drafters, and Engineers to ensure coordinated designs.
- Applies standard design principles and theories to complete assignments. Utilizes technical manuals to ensure compliance with all Company policies and applicable standards and codes such as ANSI, PFI, and ASME.
- Assists in ensuring compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
- Compiles data and computes quantities.
- Reads 2D and 3D drawings and supplier/manufacturer drawings.
- Understands and performs changes, additions, and/or revisions as required by the immediate supervisor.
Requirements:
- Typically four years progressively responsible discipline related design experience; degree or completion of technical courses with 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Entry level design position responsible for performing easy to moderate design work assignments involving some independent judgment to determine a course of action consistent with established functional and organization's policies and goals.
- Familiar with basic engineering and/or design/drafting concepts. Has general understanding of other disciplines' roles in the design process.
- Able to complete tasks in accordance with project procedures and applicable codes and/or standards.
- Able to discuss routine technical problems and communicate effectively with immediate supervisor and other project personnel.
- Ability to utilize intermediate to advanced PC and 2D CAD tools, and other applicable hardware and software to perform duties. Applying and strengthening applicable design skills, as well as software skills, such as 3D CAD.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities important.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical. Usually able to explain why things are done they way they are within a broader organizational context.
- Commitment to customer service and ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to maintain confidential information critical.
- Under general supervision, performs routine to moderately difficult drafting/design and/or tech-nical support assignments, requiring the application of advanced drafting and fundamental de-sign techniques, and engineering and mathematical principles, in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- May direct the work of lower-level CAD Technicians.
- Typically will interface with departmental staff and lower and middle management, and sometimes outside customers.

- The position reports directly to the Piping Lead.
- Opportunity exists in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
