POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Planner
DEPARTMENT: Materials Planning
REPORTS TO: Materials Planning Manager
LOCATION: Edmonton, AB
PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Planner will plan materials and resources to provide the most efficient effective scheduling of production activities as required to ensure on-time delivery to internal and external clients. The planner will do so with the utmost professional approach to customer satisfaction.
AUTHORITY LEVELS
The Planner has the authority to carry out the duties responsibilities as outlined within this position description.
NATURE SCOPE
The Planner reports directly to the Planning Manager and is responsible for all planning activities. This position will work with Materials Planning, Commercial, Technical, HSE, Human Resources and other manufacturing department to provide quality products on time and within prescribed costs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
§ At all times, the Planner is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of themselves and visitors, in an environmentally friendly manner.
§ Ensure production scheduling is maintained and provided to the product group in a timely manner. Create publish production related reports as necessary.
§ Attend and chair, minimum once per week, production meetings with the shop leadership; distribute manufacturing schedules and capacity reports to the various product groups via production meeting.
§ Work closely with Materials Planning group to ensure materials and services are on-time and coincide with production schedules.
§ Provide accurate and detailed production data to the Superintendent as required.
§ Ensure effective communication with Sales group relative to deliveries; promises to clients that are unachievable is to be avoided at all times, thus ensuring Bradken’s integrity.
§ Develop and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and all other company departments.
§ Create, review and issue all SOs and jobs from internal quotes and customer POs; create job travelers, complete with manufacturing drawings, for shop floor use.
§ Ensure all technical requirements, specifications, codes and regulations are met and documented on drawings and/or job travelers; liaise with internal resources, as required, in an effort to achieve this.
§ Ensure all technical/delivery requirements are known and detailed in work orders at the time of job creation and subsequently communicated to the appropriate product group personnel.
§ Best use of inventory materials should always be considered. Replenish, through the creation of inventory jobs, all manufactured inventory item as required.
§ Ensure opportunities for costs reduction are recognized and acted upon without compromising safety, quality and on time delivery.
§ Confirm all material cost accuracy in database and roll assembly standard costs prior to releasing jobs.
§ Maintain inventories of semi-finished goods.
§ Determine, maintain track delivery dates while managing sales backlog.
§ SO due dates must be maintained to accurately reflect shipping dates and backlog. This info is to be communicated to sales as required.
§ Follow all safety initiatives and bring forth any recommendations, attending safety meetings, as required.
§ Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED RECRUITMENT CRITERIA
QUALIFICATIONS:
§ Minimum Grade 12; APICS certification and post-secondary education in a related field is preferred
KNOWLEDGE EXPERIENCE:
§ 2-5 years experience as a Planner or Estimator in a manufacturing/fabrication environment
SKILLS ABILITIES:
§ Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Access) with intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills
§ Detail oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills
§ Solid decision making skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment are a must.
§ Capability to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently to meet deadlines; work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
§ Capability to work in a team environment with varied departments and diverse personalities.
