Portfolio Manager (Fixed Income)
As part of this role, you will be responsible for recommending and implementing alternative credit asset programmes to deliver the Group annuity and shareholder strategies. Working closely with our asset managers, you will improve risk-adjusted returns and propose investment opportunities, with an understanding of insurance regulations and constraints.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Initiate and complete Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to mandate external asset managers in new asset strategies
- Present and gain approval at implementation and risk boards / committees the rationale of any investment strategy
- Challenge investment banks and asset managers on commercial and operational factors
- Formulate and implement large investment programmes that impact short and medium term financial metrics
- Suggest improvements on the better tracking of investment performance and investment guidelines
- Manage team objectives and support career progression of direct reports
- Lead the annuity strategy investment programme and part of succession planning for the investment strategy team
You will be interfacing with multitude of external stakeholders such as Banks, Law firms, Fund Managers; as well as internal stakeholders within Risk, Friends Life investments, Actuarial teams, Legal etc. You will be presenting your proposals to the executive board on a regular basis so excellent communication and presentation skills are absolutely key.
Additionally, you will have;
- Strong understanding and demonstrable experience of operating in the fixed income markets (credit derivatives)
- Understanding of the Insurance regulations
- Detail orientated combined with ability to influence Board and Committee level internal stakeholders and external counterparties with confidence and reason.
- Ability to lead a team and part of succession planning for the investment strategy team.
- Ability to filter and judge investment proposals for FL suitability.
- Role requires running external RFPs / due diligence sessions.
- Role requires detailed technical knowledge of financial instruments and financial markets with successful track record.
- Role requires ownership of financial targets to the shareholder and its delivery.
Please note this isn't a trading role, and will be ideal for someone very commercial, who likes the challenge of the markets and relishes the strategy side of the asset management. It may be perfect for someone looking to switch to the buy side or already operating within it.
