Portfolio Specialist – National Accounts recruitment
Portfolio Specialist will have frequent direct contact (both proactive and reactive) with the research analysts/gatekeepers, the National Accounts Managers acts as the primary contact for all research analysts. Key clients include (but are not limited to) firms such as Charles Schwab, Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Wells Fargo Advisors, UBS Financial Services and other top distribution partners.
The emphasis of the position will be on expanding research relationships with National Account clients. Winning and retaining allocations is the joint responsibility of the National Account Managers and Portfolio Specialist. The Portfolio Specialist role required a great emphasis on ongoing service and support of our clients’ due diligence efforts. Will be required to build relationships internally at Cohen Steers (i.e. portfolio management and research, retail distribution etc.). This position will be responsible for mastery of the full range of Cohen Steers asset management capabilities and strategies by leveraging internal resources to expand relationships with research analysts. Will also support the external broker/dealer and RIA retail sales teams, with messaging, portfolio construction information, as necessary.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Portfolio Management and retail distribution to appropriately position the firm’s products with key distribution partners.
- Meet with internal investment and research staff on a regular basis to develop their knowledge of Cohen Steers product strategies.
- Orchestrate product rollouts, marketing strategy initiatives and special projects to home office research teams (for both the broker dealer and RIA channels).
- Organize and host periodic research/client relationship reviews with appropriate Cohen Steers constituent groups.
- Identify opportunities to connect senior management at broker-dealers with senior management at Cohen Steers.
- Participate in industry conferences as appropriate.
- Win allocations and retain existing allocations.
- Maintain “Platform Opportunities Pipeline” for purposes of monitoring progress toward placements
- Act as expert on RIA and BD platforms (asset levels, model construction, etc.)
- Expertly navigate Cohen Steers portfolio data
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of investment theory and practice within the institutional marketplace – particularly equity investing. Investment knowledge of any of the following asset classes is a plus: real estate, preferred securities, real asset portfolios, and infrastructure investing.
- Working knowledge of performance attribution, style and risk characteristics, statistics and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal skills, a disciplined and well-organized approach, and top caliber relationship building abilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow-up on client requests in a timely manner is key
- Must be a disciplined, strategic thinker motivated to build and grow strong relationships. Must be smart, diligent, decisive and a true team player.
- Must be drawn to teaming and collaborating with others
- Superior written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- 5+ years experience within the investment management arena – of which at least 3-5 years experience is focused on developing wealth management and supermarket relationships.
- Team-orientation, integrity, initiative, thoroughness, resourcefulness, interest in continual learning and ability to juggle multiple projects.
- Bachelor degree (MBA a plus)
- Series 7 license required
- CFA, CFP, CIMA or CAIA designation preferred
- 50% travel required
