The University of Massachusetts Medical School, one of the fastest growing academic health centers in the country, has built a reputation as a world-class research institution, consistently producing noteworthy advances in clinical and basic research. The Medical School attracts more than $174 million in research funding annually, 80 percent of which comes from federal funding sources. UMMS is the academic partner of UMass Memorial Health Care, the largest health care provider in Central Massachusetts. The University of Massachusetts Medical School's Health Geography Lab and Biostatistics Research Group in the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine are recruiting for a two to three-year full-time postdoctoral research fellow. This position is open immediately until filled. The program also intends to enhance the diversity of the research workforce in this area by recruiting individuals from underrepresented/disadvantaged populations. The post-doctoral fellow will receive advanced biostatistical and epidemiologic training in nutrition, physical activity and health disparity research under the supervision of Wenjun Li, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine, Biostatistics and Director of the Health Geography Lab. The mentoring team also includes Drs. George Reed (Professor, Biostatistics), Patricia Franklin (Professor, Physical Function and Activity), and Ms. Barbara Olendzki (Assistant Professor, Nutrition). Information on the mentors is available at http://profiles.umassmed.edu/Profiles/Search.aspx . The fellowship will provide exceptional opportunities to develop: 1. Research expertise in measurement and analysis of nutrition and/or physical activity, and disparities in obesity/ CVD and musculoskeletal health, 2. Advanced knowledge and skills in statistical design, implementation and analysis of observational cohort studies and statistical analysis of clinical registries and large public health databases, 3. Knowledge and skills in analysis of social and built environment in relation to health and health behaviors, 4. Skills in providing effective methodological consultations to faculty, research fellows and residents through collaborative research projects, and 5. A K-award or R00 application, guided by the mentors. Eligible candidates should have: 1. A doctoral degree in any of the following disciplines: nutrition, exercise science/kinesiology, physical therapy/rehabilitation or nutrition/physical activity epidemiology. 2. Demonstrated strong interest in, and familiarity with, measurement and analysis of nutrition and/or physical activity data. 3. Graduate training in advanced statistical analysis, basic programming skills in Stata and/or SAS . 4. Excellent skills in scientific writing, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications. 5.
