Precious Metals Geologist, Group Credit Risk
About the role
We are currently seeking to appoint an ambitious Mining professional with geologist qualifications to join the Group's Credit Risk team, chiefly servicing clients of the Metals Energy Capital team. The Metals Energy Capital team is part of Macquarie's Fixed Income Currency and Commodities Group and have been providing resource financing solutions to the global resources sector for over 20 years.
As an integral part of the Credit team, you will be:
- directly involved in assessing new loans, hedging and investments in the resources sector
- monitoring and reviewing existing exposures
- working closely with commercial analysts to analyse and integrate technical, legal, commercial and financial information and presenting to senior management
- undertaking site visits to Australian and International mineral resource projects
- managing and executing due diligence
- working closely with business executives, external clients and consultants to achieve efficient and effective processing of transactions
About You
This outstanding opportunity would ideally suit a commercially oriented person wishing to leverage their strong mining industry background and further develop their commercial skills and career in resource finance/risk management. Ideally you would have:
- tertiary qualifications in Geology.
- sound experience working within, or consulting to, the mining industry in a technical capacity
- exposure to and further studies in commercial and finance areas would be an advantage
- proven technical and analytical skills, attention to detail, sound judgement in assessing mining related proposals
- strong organisation, communication and negotiation skills
- an eye for identifying credit issues with material significance
- strong experience in resource and reserve estimation
- open-cut precious metals operational experience with further experience in underground and other commodities an advantage.
- The desire to add value through technical expertise and process improvement is essential
