Principal Enterprise IT Standards Management Architect
Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a small group with a big job at Kaiser Permanente. EA is responsible for technology planning and architecture for the largest health maintenance organization (HMO) in the United States. Our work directly impacts the delivery of care for millions of people across the country. One area of accountability within Enterprise Architecture is Standards Management for all of Kaiser Permanente. This includes managing the accuracy and completeness of the catalog of technologies and their lifecycles, providing senior leadership and governance bodies with reports on the state of standard/non-standard usage of technologies across all 8 regions and 5 portfolios, administering the processes associated with standards management including standards proposals and waivers to standards, and providing oversight to subject-matter experts that may steward aspects of the catalog. The Principal Architect for Standards Management is a highly visible role. The person in this role must exhibit characteristics of a seasoned professional; able to communicate at middle-director to C-level audiences. Concepts of standards and lifecycles can be complex. This individual must have the ability to translate complex concepts into understandable communications to many areas and layers of the organization. This role also requires strong resilience and the ability to make and defend unpopular decisions. The Principal Architect for Standards Management should be seen as a trusted advisor to the Chief Architect, Enterprise Architects and Application Portfolio Management and Project Delivery senior leaders. This person must have strong drive. Essential Functions: -Oversees all standards lifecycles and ensures category and product stewards are up to date with manufacturer and internal lifecycles. Responsible for running reports on the health of IT environment and making recommendations to the IT Standards Board and other members of leadership. .- Works with Senior Leadership as a trusted advisor and thought partner on strategic objectives. Helps Senior Leaders plan the translation of strategic direction into practical objectives and priorities. Work with business and IT strategists to document and manage enterprise level visions, strategies, goals and objectives and provide input on various programs, efforts and capabilities as to their alignment with those strategies and objectives - Researches new and emerging technologies. Writes papers and creates presentations and proposals on findings that are relevant to the technical and business communities. - Connect technology and concepts to financial impacts resulting in Total Cost of Operations (TCO) estimates and projections. Continuously look for ways to reduce cost and increase speed to market. Provide cost/benefit, impact and other analyses in support of investment programs, divestiture programs and other portfolio management efforts. - Builds vision and shared understanding throughout the organization. Strong leadership skills to bring all the stakeholders together; consensus builder and thought leader. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, business science or a related discipline and or 4 years of equivalent work experience - Good understanding of all areas of technology (IT technology, Business Applications, Industry Standards) so as to be able to communicate with product and category stewards regarding lifecycles and technology stack requirements, as well as engineers, business application owners and architects. At least 15+ years of solid experience in the technology field - 3 to 5 years of strong experience in standardsand or governance - Must have understanding of TOGAF and Zachman frameworks and the architecture pillars within - Must be able to demonstrate general understanding of all tiers of technology with proven proficiency in a particular area - Ability to research emerging technologies and practically apply such research - Must be able to multi-task seamlessly - Must be able to drive direction and facilitate change rapidly - Ability to communicate complex technical architectures in easily consumable formats - Work under minimal supervision, receiving general guidance from more seasoned architects or senior managers. - Must provide thought leadership in a number of arenas including technology as it pertains to business capabilities, financial aspects, and strategy development. - Ability to interact seamlessly with engineers, developers, analysts, business leaders, and C-level staff. - Must exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills. - Must exhibit excellent presentation skills - Project management and general management experience Preferred Qualifications: - Proficiency with Troux Technologies - Modeling techniques using UML, Rational or other major modeling tools - Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Event Architecture Web Services - Experience in Object Oriented Design and Programming - Programming or other application development skills - Knowledge and experience in various RDBMS systems such as Oracle, DB2, MS-SQL MySQL and Teradata - Six Sigma or Lean Sigma
