Principal or Senior Risk Manager
Role Overview
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the EBRD or 'the Bank') is seeking a candidate for the position of a Principal/Senior Risk Manager to work in the Risk Policy and Reporting team of the Risk Management department.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the development and maintaining of the Bank's risk policies and guidance procedures, risk portfolio analytics and stress testing, risk assessment and reporting, as well as control for new product review and approvals. The Principal/Senior Risk Manager will assist in conducting and coordinating country, sector, and product risk, outlooks and reviews, as well as deputise for the Director, Risk Policy and Reporting on matters pertaining to risk policies and procedures and Risk Committee management. Although as an international financial institution the EBRD is not regulated, it seeks to adopt best practice solutions and therefore understanding of market standards and regulatory requirements will be essential in the role.
The Principal/Senior Risk Manager reports to the Director, Risk Policy and Reporting, and to be successful must have to ability to work closely with professionals across Risk, other departments of the Bank, and to draw on contacts and insights from outside.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
· Take responsibility for key elements of risk policies and reporting, working in partnership with Risk Management teams and managing inter-departmental collaboration and consultations
· Coordinate and contribute to sovereign and country risk rating process, including relevant macro-financial risk analysis and inter-departmental consultations.
· Coordinate and contribute to Risk Management input into country and sector strategies.
· Contribute to the preparation of regular risk reports and analysis for Risk Committee senior management, and Board of Directors
· Contribute to the development of enterprise risk measures including risk logs, dashboards and other relevant tools
· Take a leading role in benchmarking the Bank's risk processes, policies and reporting to market best practice and regulatory requirements
· Take active role in design and execution of regular stress tests of the Bank's portfolio
· Contribute to the preparation of Risk Committee agendas and documents, including assessments of new Banking products.
Essential Skills, Experience Qualifications
Business Expertise and Strategic Thinking
· Clear understanding of debt, equity, liquidity management, as well as investment and risk management processes of a major bank
· Experience in the finance industry, including in risk assessment, risk data management, risk reporting and portfolio analytics.
· Understanding of risk management best practice, preferably including exposure to regulatory risk management requirements.
· Ability to build and maintain internal and external network of contacts to facilitate monitoring of market developments and benchmarking of the Bank's practices in the area of risk policy and reporting
· Demonstrated strong analytic skills and interest in and ability to manage and work with data and come to clear conclusions and recommendations.
· Ability to interact with senior management on technical matters in a layman's language, communicate clearly and generate buy-in, and ability to operate effectively across departments within the broader context of the Bank's mission
· Strategic ability to both consider the details of individual situations and equally analyse the larger picture to draw meaningful conclusions.
· Knowledge of and experience in the EBRD countries of operations and / or emerging markets a plus
Qualifications
- Degree in economics, finance, business or international affairs from a leading university, or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and to take responsibility while collaborating with a wide range of people
- Professional network and contacts in relative areas in the market, academia, consulting, etc.
