As a Pre-Press Operator, you are primarily responsible for preflight-to-plate production of customers’ files.  The Pre-Press Operator will process these customer files using Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Acrobat, and Quark Xpress for Macintosh or Windows.  Though it is the Pre-Press Operator’s responsibility to create some original artwork from time to time, most of these files are from customers who know their needs and will supply RoArk with the correct files.

Responsibilities and Duties:

                                                General and Administrative

·         Coordinate with Production Team to produce and prioritize jobs, and when necessary reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.

·         Comply with all OSHA safety requirements.

·         Participate as a key player in the Production Team by supporting operations as needed.

·         Communicate effectively with General Manager/Owner, the Production Manager, the sales team, and the production team, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that both sales and client objectives are met.

·         Follow systems and procedures outlined in the company manuals.

 

Graphic Design/Desktop Publishing

·         Perform all job orders according to work order/job ticket requirements.

·         Operate DTP equipment (PC and Mac), scanner, laser and color printers, and RIPs, as needed.

·         Make backups on a regular basis and organize files for safekeeping and for easy retrieval.

·         Interface with the Outside Sales Representative, the Customer Service Representative and the customer to understand job requirements and ensure all design work is approved prior to creating plates or forwarding for printing or copying.

·         Provide customers with proofs and see that proof deadlines are met.

·         Coordinate with copy and press operators to ensure that DTP work meets their expectations and requirements.

·         Provide necessary digital/graphics training to sales staff as required.

·         Receive and manipulate files electronically.

 

Qualifications:

·         Minimum of 2 years education in graphic design and advertising.

·         Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in graphic design.

·         Minimum of 1 year of print production experience.

·         Comprehensive background, understanding, and experience with Mac05 Commercial Prepress applications, such as: Quark, Acrobat, Indesign, Microsoft Publisher, Illustrator, Photoshop.

·         Knowledge of PDF and postscript files and PDF plug-ins.

·         General knowledge of utility programs such as file compression, disk repair, print spoolers, PC to Mac, and Mac to PC conversion processes.

·         Ability to prepare files for output, plate, spot and 4-color process, receive and manipulate files electronically and maintain operating system on production machine.

·         Ability to send files to digital color devices.

·         Experience in book pagination and layout.
