Department Overview

The Finance department covers Product and Financial Control. Both Product and Financial Control are jointly responsible for the integrity of the financial records of Barclays Capital. Product Control provides explanations of business revenues, attributing any movements to market positions, inherent risk and new deals. The team is also responsible for ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet for revenue products. Product Control is pivotal to our reporting and control infrastructure and the information provided by the group gives us the means to assess business performance. In addition, the group coordinates all global finance controls and procedures. Financial Decision Support bolsters Barclays Capital's growth by enabling and supporting all financial decisions within the firm, through timely provision of quality data and partnership with key strategic decision makers. Product Control has a significant presence and role within the Organization. There is a close working relationship with the trading desks and other areas focusing on control, service and reporting. We are a central point of contact for many issues that affect the bank. By placing a heavy emphasis on information technology and focusing on project work, we are able to address control and operational risks and meet our internal and external obligations.

Main Function

The Finance function within Barclays Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) employs approximately 2,000 people worldwide, with major representation in London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo. The Product Control function, made up of approximately 1,000 people, sits within the Finance function and is responsible for the integrity of the books and records for the Barclays CIB trading businesses. IVC is part of Product Control with teams in each region. The responsibility of this role will be to:

Main Duties

Responsible for daily PL production attribution. This involves extensive liaison with the trading desk. This role will serve as one of the primary points of contact for the trading desk in relation to all p/l queries.

Understand the drivers behind the daily PL in relation to market movements.

Be the point of contact for that business for the front office and in providing information for back office and other interested parties.

Preparation of end-of-day PL, including daily commentaries

Ensure the maintenance of a strong internal control environment

Assist with wider group initiatives such as systems migrations.

Liaison with other departmental areas (e.g. Front Office, Operations, IT, Financial Control)

Process and control development, identification of improvements through documentation and analysis of current procedures
