Under limited supervision, responsible for sustaining engineering aspects of assigned products. Product Engineer is also responsible for performance of company products and ensuring conformance with specified requirements. Manages phases of a product program from prototype build, product verification and validation to inception into production and manufacturing support. Manages the organizational and technical interfaces with functional areas responsible for performance specifications, quality/test criteria, technical documentation, and production operations. Ensures production schedules are followed. Establishes and maintains conformance to customer requirements and the resolution of product performance/quality problems. Assigned projects are diverse and complex in nature requiring initiative and judgment in determining appropriate solutions.
Responsibilites:
Work closely with Product Sales Marketing Engineer (PSME) for identification of a customer or market need for a new product, modification to an existing product or non-standard/custom product. Provides technical marketing assistance to the PSME in the evaluation and feasibility of customer applications relating to the product line. Oversees all product line activities and supports new product transition from RD to manufacturing; also reviews quality assurance/test requirements. This includes verification of new software prior to production release. Provides technical support to manufacturing with product issues throughout the manufacturing process, including testing and verification of final product. Prepares and presents demonstrations and applications of product lines (may include presentations at trade shows and customer sites. Provides technical support to PSME and Sales staff in determining application of product to customer requirements. Assists Sales Support and PSME with the review of customer/performance contracts. Gathers and analyzes design input information to determine possible application and design adequacy. Provides support to Field Service representatives for complex technical issues to produce expedient resolutions for customers. Provides technical input to Technical Publications group for development and maintenance of machine operation, service, and any required product documentation. Reviews and approves all revisions to production drawings (EO process), as well as oversee and approve the release of new production drawings and PMA's (Product Manager Approval Forms). Assists buyer with review and approval of component/material orders, which exceed standard purchasing guidelines (PPV- Purchase Price Variance process). Reviews and processes customer sales orders based on customer specifications (Configurator process). Includes release of production order to manufacturing to meet customer supplied delivery dates. Maintains product line document forms. Coordinates the investigation, response, and the implementation of any required corrective action resulting from product CAR's. Participates in all design reviews related to the verification of Product Specification and System Requirements. Coordinates the resolution of any requested or required Product Specifications with the Product Team. Ensures machine datatbase is maintained for product line. Assists Training Department, Product Service Engineers, and Product Sales Marketing Engineer with the development and performance of training for the customer and Field Service personnel, as well as informal on-the-job training for other Field Service staff members and customers. Consistently evaluates the manufacturing and test processes to insure the highest possible level of product quality.
Requires physical mobility and stamina normally associated with a sustaining engineering project and/or product program management. Occasionally requires extended work hours and periods of prolonged mental and visual concentration for reading, data analysis, performance testing, and preparation of reports. Requires travel to customer locations (domestice and international).
