To provide technical support relating to Investment Bonds, tax and Trusts both generically with awareness of the UK market, and specifically relating to products, to various internal areas and externally to IFAs and compliance teams where necessary.
Dimensions of Position:
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Technical Services team and report directly to the Head of Technical Services and Training for the UK Wealth Management business. Other members of the technical services team provide technical services in respect of pensions, investment and individual protection, though it would be expected that the Life Technical Manager would have a basic awareness of other technical areas and be able to provide support when necessary. The Technical Services team works very closely with the Product Development, Sales and Marketing teams.
Principal Accountabilities of Position:
• To provide technical support in relation to range of Investment Bonds and Trusts.
• To provide technical support in relation to the wider UK market and tax regime for Investment Bonds and Trusts with particular emphasis on Inheritance tax/chargeable events etc.
• Technical support will be provided to:
• Senior management
• Internal departments, including Marketing, Product, Operations, Compliance and Legal.
• Outsourced service providers
• Distribution
• IFAs and other distribution partners
• To monitor industry changes, specifically in relation to changes in legislation and regulation insofar as this will affect the provision and use of Investment Bonds and Trusts.
• To work with Marketing to ensure product literature is accurate and work with Distribution to promote opportunities to enhance sales activity by production of sales aids and presentations.
• To develop and provide training to internal staff and, where appropriate, IFAs in relation both to Investment Bond products and Trusts. This includes the writing and delivering of product licensing tests.
• To work as part of the Technical Services team to provide a range of technical materials that can be used with or by advisers, for example technical bulletins, technical guides and frequently asked questions, with the aim of improving tax and Trusts knowledge within Distribution.
Experience, Skills and Competencies:
It is expected that the successful candidate will come from a Life company, consultancy or IFA.
• A technically strong candidate with relevant experience of tax and trusts, specifically Investment Bonds and chargeable events and the taxation of Trusts.
• An awareness of future developments in the industry is advantageous especially with regard to the impact on the tax treatment of Investment Bonds and Inheritance Tax/Trusts.
• The successful candidate will have experience of presenting technical material; explaining technical concepts and presenting technical material both internally and externally at a variety of levels.
Advantageous skills / experience
• 5-10 years industry experience
• Industry qualifications including CII and STEP progress or equivalent
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Good academic record to degree level
