Job Details-DB2 Database Administrator

Perform technical implementations according to project specification, focused on DB2 database support on both AIX and Linux Operating systems.  The responsibilities for this role are the architecture, design, build, implementation, upgrade and optimization of mission-critical database systems.  Clients are typically Fortune 500 companies with business critical, production eCommerce and other enterprise systems.  Client profiles include major airlines, online retailers, financial institutions and IT service providers. Responsibilities include: Upgrade of existing, highly available, production DB2 systems; Performance tuning of existing DB2 installations; Expansion and capacity planning for growth; Performance tuning and performance management; DB2 installations in cloud environments; Data retention, backup and restore best practices implementation; DR planning; Consistently working with a cross-functional team including Project Managers, Systems Administrators, network engineers and middleware architects; Ability to complete deliverables in a timely manner and communicate progress and project risks; Direct interface to client stakeholders; Knowledge transfer of support procedures to steady-state operations groups.

Skills and Experience

5+ years UNIX/Linux Systems Administration experience; Physical system experience (rack/stack, cabling, hard drive replacement, hardware upgrades); OS installation tools (kickstart, jumpstart); Scripting skills (Perl, Python, shell); Web server experience (Apache, iPlanet, IIS); Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking; Working knowledge of HA concepts (load balancing, clustering); Working knowledge of computer virtualization; Excellent communication skills; Strong willingness to learn and take on technical challenges beyond current skill level.

Middleware application server administration; ATG Dynamo, JBoss; J2EE experience or working knowledge; Virtualization technologies; VMWare, Cisco UCS; SAN/NAS; EMC Clariion, NetApp Netscalar; Databases; Oracle; Other UNIX skills; DNS, User Management, package management, OS patching; Experience in client-facing technical work; Ability to articulate multi-tier application architectures; Ability to prepare technical reports, client presentations, design documentation, and manuals.
