Program Manager, UBS Optimus Foundation
The UBS Optimus Foundation (UBSOF) is an expert grant-making foundation established by UBS in 1999. The Foundation works to break down barriers that prevent children from reaching their potential by funding leading organizations to improve the health, education and protection of children. UBSOF supports projects in any country where children face adversity. UBS covers all the Foundation's administrative costs so that 100 percent of all donations go directly to the projects.
UBSOF has recently opened a branch in Hong Kong and is experiencing very positive client response. As such, we now seek an experienced and highly motivated Program Manager to manage grants in the region as well as source new projects. We seek someone with a strong understanding of health and education programs (child protection knowledge a plus) and very good network in the region, particularly in China.
You will be reporting to the Head of the Grants team in Zurich and to the Head of UBS Optimus Foundation APAC.
Your specific tasks will include:
- Help in continuous refinement of UBSOF landscape analysis (particularly in health), and sourcing of projects within the priority focus areas of the landscape
- Manage and help to enhance procedures for identification, selection, monitoring, and evaluation of projects
- Participate in development and implementation of best practices within grant-making team
- Develop well-reasoned strategies for sourcing projects, including, when appropriate, calls for proposals.
- Help refine approach to monitor, evaluate and report on funded projects
- Help drive programmatic performance where appropriate
- Engage with grantees to advise and build capacity where appropriate
- Coordinate activities of consultants and evaluators as needed
- Manage aims, progress, and outlook of all supported projects
- Serve as contact person for active and potential partners
- Maintain regional expertise on key developments, research and policy which may affect granting strategy or priorities within Asia
- Work with entire team to help build a world-class funding organization
Our ideal candidate should have the following requisites:
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) and Mandarin (a must)
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in non-profit or business sector, preferably both
- A good understanding of medical or biological sciences
- Broad understanding of global health issues and global health experience is desirable
- Understanding or experience in education and child protection issues
- Strong analytical skills
- Highly strategic
- Project management experience
- Good understanding of innovations and best practices in foundation management
- Experience in working in Asia, with strong networks, including researchers and organizations
- Desire to work in a dynamic, cooperative environment in which there is an emphasis on teamwork, adaptability, and continuous learning and improvement
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
