Job Description
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany) and the outstations are in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy). We are looking for a Project Controller/Budget Officer who will be responsible for financial administration of research projects, including budget preparation, monitoring and controlling expenditure against awarded budget and timely preparation of financial reports in liaison with the responsible scientists. The successful candidate will perform quality reviews to ensure completeness, accuracy and conformance of the expenditure with the funding agency’s rules. The post holder will also contribute to the preparation of the laboratory’s budget and will be expected to take an active part in the development of the SAP-based financial and management accounting system..
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should have a degree in finance or experience in accounting/ controlling as well as knowledge of budgetary control, basic accounting concepts and financial reporting principles. Experience in the administration of academic research grants will be considered an advantage. The post holder should be fluent in both English and German; additionally, knowledge of French would be beneficial. We are looking for a candidate with good communication and interpersonal skills as well as solid knowledge of the usual office software packages, especially Excel. Proficiency in accounting software (SAP is preferred) would be an advantage. Experience of working in an international organisation is also desirable.
