Chemical manufacturer seeks a skilled Purchasing Director in the Houston area. As the Purchasing Director, you will develop, negotiate, and execute strategies for procurement of major raw materials, services, and transportation. Must have raw materials and chemical plant procurement or engineering knowledge or experience. This is a high profile director position (full time, direct hire) with competitive base salary and outstanding benefits.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic purchasing plans integrated with Operations and Sales plans
- Support weekly Sales Operation Planning process by converting demand forecast into supply plans that optimize inventory levels, minimize demurrage, and prevent supply interruption
- Continually improve Purchasing and Logistics processes to minimize wasted time and errors.
- Deliver financial value through margin and terms improvement initiatives for critical raw material and initiate alternative raw material evaluations
- Lead and direct the Buyer to ensure purchase orders are placed and tracked, and Coordinate with proper groups to ensure material and equipment procurement complies with applicable regulations and procedures.
- Support capital projects by completing final review of major equipment orders and to ensure optimum cost control, and interface with production, maintenance, safety, environmental, QA/QC, RD, Customer Service, Sales, Customers and vendors on supply chain matters.
- Support Process Safety Management ( PSM ) by controlling suppliers and contractors, using the MOC process for supply and equipment changes.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in preferably in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Logistics. A comparable degree with appropriate chemical procurement experience will be considered
- Minimum four years experience in chemical logistics and purchasing, and procurement of raw materials
- Negotiating experience with procurement agreements and contracts, collaboration skills and strong communication skills.
- Experience with purchasing and logistics for chemicals, fuel and lubricant additives, adhesives and composites materials is a strong plus.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g. SAP, others).
- Demonstrated ability to organize, schedule and manage multiple projects and initiatives, and strong problem solving skills and contingency planning.
- Management experience with external (toll) manufacturing is desired. Selected person will manage one Buyer.
