Job Description Position Reports To: Associate Chief of Anatomic Pathology GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: As part of the Pathology Quality and Safety team, responsible for the day-to-day activities including interactions with other divisions within Pathology (Anatomic and Molecular Pathology, Laboratory and Molecular Medicine, Training and Development, Research, Informatics) and departments within the hospital. Under the direction of the Associate Chief of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology (AMP), the individual will work as a department-wide resource that supports and implements the long term strategies of the Division of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of quality and safety initiatives. Develops policies, procedures, training documents that support the Quality and Safety initiatives. Handles and analyzes highly sensitive and confidential information. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Active management of the hospital safety reporting system (RLSolutions): triaging incoming safety reports to individual laboratories, tracing responses, responding to queries from other departments about safety reports, sending queries and performing initial investigations. 2. Maintain the department database to categorize safety reports. Compile and assess patterns and identify opportunities to improve quality, performance or processes. 3. Assist the Associate Chief of AMP to set priorities and approaches for potential projects. 4. Participate on or lead cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams tasked to solve common, recurrent, or high risk problems identified by safety reports or other sources. Provide project management support and documentation. Performs high level financial analyses to determine the impact of failures and/or solutions. 5. Participate in the Pathology Rapid Response Team (Associate Chief of AMP, Director of Operations and others) and respond to urgent events requiring immediate resolution. 6. Support the Pathology Quality Dashboard by compiling information from a variety of information systems or paper documents. 7. Extract information for presentation to audiences within the Pathology Service or hospital committees. 8. Assist in preparation for regulatory surveys as needed (such as JC, AABB, ASHI, FACT). 9. Other duties as assigned. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 1. Able to determine and use appropriate tools and analytic processes to examine events, lead or support work groups. Tools may include but are not limited to root cause analysis, FMEA, LEAN, Six Sigma. 2. Able to communicate and collaborate with all levels of employees both professional and technical on issues, solutions and monitoring activities. Able to create an environment of ?just culture? that encourages creativity, innovation and engagement. 3. Extensive written, verbal and presentation skills to organize, document and describe complex issues, workflows and follow-up. 4. Able to work independently and collaborate to seek solutions to identified problems, coordinate and document responses, ensure ongoing follow up and performance improvement 5. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Able to manage several complex initiatives, ensuring progress and balancing competing priorities on concurrent projects. Able to establish priorities, create action plans. 6. Able to handle highly sensitive information according to hospital and department policies. EDUCATION: Bachelor?s Degree in management or a healthcare science is required. Master?s Degree (MBA, MHA, MS) is preferred EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years experience in project management, data management in a healthcare setting preferably Pathology Working knowledge of technical and professional activities within Pathology preferred. Working knowledge of principles of quality and safety, project management, performance improvement tools (root cause analysis, LEAN, Six Sigma, etc) is helpful. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable): No direct reports but responsible for leading teams and managing performance. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable): No direct fiscal responsibilities. May be responsible for project budgets. Activities may impact the financial performance of the operation. WORKING CONDITIONS: In general, will work in offices and meeting rooms. Will be expected to work in the laboratory setting based on work assignments.
