Job Description

Manage the plant quality assurance process to ensure production of consistent quality products that meet customer requirements and expectations.  Direct and develop the quality assurance staff to improve their capabilities and provide a system for continuous improvement of the processes.  Position will include in depth responsibility to include FDA compliance at the plant, HACCP maintenance, and general oversight of quality practices for compliance and uniformity across the business area.

 

Reports To:              Business Manager, Consumer Additives, w/dotted line to Plant Manager and Director of Quality

 

Responsibilities

·         Manage the overall Quality process in such a manner as to ensure adherence to the company’s quality policy.

·         Manage the onsite laboratory technicians to ensure quality production, high productivity and lowest cost.

·         Fulfill the responsibilities of the ISO-9000 management representative.

·         Participate as needed in offsite business area audits.

·         Perform laboratory testing as required to meet production and shipment demands.

·         Work closely with the Director of Technology and applicable people at sites to review and approve the introduction of any new products or revised formulations.

·         Ensure safe working conditions and behaviors within the Laboratory and related work areas and develop and implement laboratory safety policies to facilitate achievement of this objective.

·         Recommend and establish quality assurance methods and procedures to insure quality production while helping to target improved yields at desired production rates.

·         Manage and/or assist with the development and implementation of any new test methods for the site and business area.

·         Direct the onsite raw material quality assurance program and assist where needed for the business area.  Perform off site auditing of any proposed new raw material suppliers.

·         Investigate and recommend solutions to prevent reoccurrence of non-standard production.

·         Develop and authorize reprocessing procedures for non-shippable inventories.

·         Direct any SPC and SQC activities at the plant.  Ensure uniformity across the business area.

·         Review SQC data on products and recommend process or specification revisions.

·         Coordinate the information flow with Customers, Sales, Customer Service, marketing, Plant Manager, and others at site.

·         Direct the training of quality assurance personnel.

·         Maintain the quality assurance systems and equipment in good working order.

·         Coordinate the development of long-range goals for Quality Assurance across the business unit.

·         Manage the overall Customer Complaint response process for DP to ensure timely and effective resolution to quality and service issues.  Particularly important will be timely and effective follow-up to ensure effectiveness of any/all corrective actions. 

·         Review Customer Complaints across the business area as they are received and subsequently submitted to ultimately reduce frequency, and eliminate repeat issues. 

·         Lead and resolve and any and all FDA compliance issues or questions.

·         Ensure maintenance of the HACCP program at the facility to ensure continued compliance.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·         Direct supervision of lab technicians.

·         Coordinates quality production and maximum productivity for lab and production.

·         Direct and give guidance on related FDA/HACCP matters to plant quality and Lab personnel.

 

 

Education Requirements:

·         B.S. in Chemistry and/ or equivalent science related degree

·         10 plus years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment with Quality Control responsibilities. 

·         Prior ISO-9000, FDA, and HACCP program expertise a must. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Certified ISO Lead Assessor is preferred.
