Quantitative Associate Job in Austin, Texas US
The Quantitative Associate has a close working relationship with the Head of External Public Markets, the Senior Analytics Investment Manager, and the Investment Managers of the 3 portfolios: Hedge Funds, Long Oriented Global Equities and Other Absolute Returns (corporate credit).
As part of the Analytics team in Austin, Texas, the professional in this position conducts a variety of analyses in support of all aspects of the company's activities. Duties can range from employment of advanced statistical analysis techniques, to the generation of routine reports. This individual interacts with associates at all levels of the organization, as well as external managers, vendors, and consultants in a cordial and effective manner.
Primary responsibilities mainly arise in three areas:
- Research: research in aspects of manager selection and portfolio management
- Production: on-going portfolio management and monitoring
- Process: improvement in the quality and efficiency of research and production processes
Skills required include a high level of attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines (at times under pressure), multitask and prioritize projects, employ advanced statistical analysis techniques, and deliver clear concise communication. A basic understanding of capital markets, investment management and performance measurement are desirable. This person should be able to work independently, and a -grace under pressure- attitude is highly valued.
The successful applicant will possess the following requirements (items are required unless noted otherwise):
- Expert in Microsoft Office and Excel (working experience of building workbooks in Excel)
- Solid computer programming experience (language is not important); working knowledge of VBA desired
- Ability to understand complex business systems
- Strong analysis skills with a good understanding of process improvement and reporting
- Quantitative, statistical and mathematical modeling and analysis is a big plus
- Ability to think creatively
- Ability to voice opinions in a professional manner
- Good functional ability with basic business software in a Windows environment
- Advanced degree MBA with an undergraduate in Computer Science, Engineering or Technology field is highly preferred
- Work experience in investment management is nice to have (0 - 3 years)
- Strength in quantitative analysis can compensate for lack of investment experience is a plus
