European Rates is one of the more significant businesses within Deutsche Bank's (DB) Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB). The business trades in multiple asset classes, and has earnt an industry reputation as a market leader in structuring solutions for clients as well as market making activities. The Rates business has 3 major divisions - Flow , Exotics and Structured. The CIB Finance team aligned to European Rates is supported by a number of specialist departments (Valuation Group, Transaction Group, Analytics, etc) which aid the Finance Directors/Managers perform their role as the guardian of Total Shareholder Return (TSR). The Finance Director/Finance Manager (FD/FM) team is a small group of senior individuals (VP to MD) which own the relationship with Trading and Business Management for Group Finance. Beyond owning the integrity of the Financials, the FD/FM team are increasingly being asked to step into a business advisory capacity in order to maximise TSR. Such advisory spans 'traditional' Product Control-like activities such as valuation and accounting, but increasingly stretches into business performance monitoring and goal setting including resource usage (capital, labour).

The transformation of Rates Finance from a classically organised product control function into DB's vision of Finance as the guardian of TSR is not yet complete. To accelerate the transformation new skills are required.

Overview:

In this role you will operate as a fully fledged Finance Manager for a subset of European Flow and Exotic business lines; owning the relationship with the desk head, validating the integrity of the financials, making key decisions on valuation and accounting treatment and reporting on the business performance.

One of the key success criteria for the role is that by the conclusion of the 1st year, the Finance Manager would be invited by their corresponding desk head to drive future business planning cycles and business performance commentary for senior business management and regulators.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Traditional Responsibilities where Finance Directors have excelled

Sign off on the accuracy of the Revenues and Balance Sheet. A prerequisite of sign off is an understanding and review of the following:
Understand the underlying risks together with market movements such that gains and losses can be easily explained.
Ensure controls are in place from the booking of a new deal to where it is recorded in the annual report.
Validate the pricing of positions i.e. are the correct prices and models in place.
Aid and guide root cause analysis to deal with any systemic control issues.
Prioritize the resources of finance and ensure results are achieved and realistic targets are set.
Effective storyboarding and problem statement definition of key issues and challenges such that senior management has a clear understanding of the issues and potential solutions.
Monitoring and controlling progress on mitigating actions against requirements to ensure remediation of accounting/valuation risks. Providing status reporting to key stakeholders and Senior Finance Management.
Explain quarterly and annual performance to senior management in terms of revenues and use of resources such as capital and balance sheet.
Ensure consistence and accuracy in the pricing and provisioning of all positions.

2. New Responsibilities that Finance is looking for expertise in

Provide support and recommendation to the business and senior members of Finance with regards to new structures and business opportunities.
Formalise accurate budgets to help the form plan for the future.
Prepare rolling forecasts that factor in the changing regulatory and business landscape.
Put in place measures that monitor the external environment.
Make recommendations based on a course of action that will help maximize shareholder wealth.
You will have:

6-10 years experience of working within a rates product control or structured trade review role that requires analysis at a micro and macro level.
Experience in owning relationships with Revenue Earners at a senior level.
Experience of Valuations across a variety of asset classes.
Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary to effectively articulate issues and risks across a variety of levels (Functional Heads, Global Heads and Board Members).
