Job Title: Recovery Coordinator
Organization Mission Statement: To restore, aid and preserve eyesight and prevent visual impairment of any sort through the promotion and advancement of eye banking.
Major Goal: Procure, evaluate, process and distribute eye tissue and provide educational programs and public relations duties to advance donation.
Key Result Area #1: Technical
Supporting Goal: To retrieve and distribute eye tissue according to EBAA, FDA and LEITR standards.
Performance Standards: The job of Coordinator in the Technical area will have been satisfactorily achieved when the following conditions exist:
1. Training period is satisfactorily completed by end of probation period.
- Trained and tested in areas of sterile technique and aseptic technique.
- Trained and tested on EBAA, FDA and LEITR policies and procedures including data entry.
- Trained and tested on excision, enucleation and anterior section techniques including sclera preparation.
- Trained in sterile preparation of instrument kits.
- Trained in medical evaluation of donor including chart review and verbal reports.
2. Quality assurance measures are followed for tissue retrieval and lab duties.
a. Paperwork is done completely, accurately and timely.
b. Donor screening forms are accurate, pertinent and legible.
c. All documentation is initialed with date, time and initials.
d. Lab duties are performed and records are maintained as required.
e. Proper procedures are followed in the placement of tissue.
3. Tissue is retrieved, processed and distributed as soon as possible.
a. Hospital policies are known for hospitals in our service area.
b. Medical Examiner policies are known.
c. Readily accessible to calls from answering service/Triage Managers.
d. Familiarity with working relationship with OPO.
e. Instruments are cleaned and maintained as needed.
f. Keeps Triage Managers informed if sending tissue in by courier.
g. Knowledgeable in specular microscopy and its usage for placement of tissue.
Key Result Area #2: Public Relations and Education
Supporting Goal: To provide education and information about eye donation.
Performance Standards: The job of Coordinator in the area of Public Relations and Education will have been satisfactorily achieved when the following conditions exist:
1. Ability to in-service hospital staff regarding organ and tissue donation as needed.
2. In-service nurses during recoveries and correctly answer questions as appropriate.
3. Use audio-visual equipment and displays as needed.
Key Result Area #3: Communications
Supporting Goal: Smooth and efficient daily operations and transition from shift to shift.
Performance Standards: The job of Coordinator in the area of Communications will have been satisfactorily achieved when the following conditions exist:
1. A spirit of team work is displayed.
2. A review of pending or incomplete tasks from previous shifts is complete.
3. Effective prioritizing of shift activities is accomplished.
4. Professionalism is displayed in daily interactions with co-workers.
5. Questions or problems are brought to your immediate supervisor for clarification or problem solving.
