Regional manager – Legal and Compliance
Job Duties:
- Execute internal control, compliance projects and legal matters assigned by the Group to the company’s Asia Pacific and to perform duties assigned by EVP -Compliance Control, Asia Pacific
- Implement the recommendations and processes decided by the company’s Audit Department and the Risks and Compliance Department of the Group
- Ensure the action plan of internal audit department of the firm and its entities are done within the prescribed period of the relevant action plan of the Group’s entities (being audited)
- Ensure that the company’s entities in AP has the correct registrations, permissions and licenses with the relevant insurance and regulatory authorities; to update the various regulatory authorities with any changes and to complete the returns as and when required
- Manage licensing matters and outsourced legal advisors
- Liaise with the Group and relevant authorities on legal and regulatory issues
- Ensure AP Region is compliant with the Group Business Continuity requirements and that the tests are carried out in accordance with the schedules required
- Keep up to date with the internal standards and rules and coordinate with respective country managers in the AP Region to keep updated when new standards/rules are published or amended
- Formulate and evaluate procedures for compliance controls over the company AP's operations and business activities
- Monitor, evaluate and conduct compliance checking to ensure compliance with related regulations, and report violation cases to AP Management Board
- Make sure that the requests of Group Risk Department regarding Solvency II are properly answered by the AP Region
- Advise on legal and compliance related issues raised by internal business/functional units
- Analyze and assess impact of new laws, regulations and new products
- Update the AP Management Board on issues relating to Anti Money Laundering and other policies (e.g. anti bribery corruption).
- Oversee the company AP complaints process and review the process annually
- Perform, follow-up and update the risks mappings related actions plans in all the Group entities in the AP Region
- Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time by EVP - Compliance Control, Asia Pacific
Requirements:
- University degree in Business Administration, Legal or related disciplines
- Over 5 years of post qualification experience in finance industry, preferably insurance sector
- Well versed in rules and regulations related to financial institutions, preferably insurance sector, including Solvency II, and other relevant legal and regulatory requirements
- AP regional experience is highly preferable
- Experience in drafting and reviewing legal documentations
- Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal and project management skills
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
- Able to communicate effectively compliance requirements and practical solutions to business and functional representatives
- Able to interact with fellow employees in a discreet and diplomatic manner but firmly as the situation requires
- Team player, well organized, able to handle multi-tasks and meet tight deadlines
