REGISTERED NURSE- Peritoneal Dialysis

Role and Responsibilities:

Participates in setting up individualized plans of care for each patient with Physician and other health services personnel.

Assists in examination and evaluation of patient in order to assure appropriate treatment and services.

Provides counseling and emotional support to minimize patient’s anxiety over condition.

Keep comprehensive records of the schedule, type of treatment, and changes in the condition of the patient.

Checks dialysis equipment and ensures it is operating properly and making or reporting necessary corrections to appropriate personnel.

Monitors patient and equipment during dialysis and teaches patient to monitor own dialysis equipment where appropriate.

Teaches patient proper care between dialysis to avoid infections, and instructs patient on matters of diet.

Assists in management of renal failure and responds to other emergency situations such as massive blood loss, shock, or equipment failure.

Educates the patient and members of the family in home care.

Other duties as they are assigned.

 

Experience Required

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing:  A.D.N. or nursing diploma required.  BSN is preferred.

2 years of Home Peritoneal Dialysis experience required.

Valid license as a Registered Nurse.

Strong verbal and written communication skills
