Position Description
This position is focused on proofreading final, peer-reviewed RAND research products and corporate communications in accordance with publishing best practices and the RAND editorial style. May also format final research reports using Microsoft Word or Adobe InDesign, and may perform other editorial tasks as required.
Duties and Responsibilties:
May perform any or all of the following duties:
-Proofreading RAND research reports and corporate publications for basic grammar and punctuation and for adherence to RAND style and branding guidelines. Must adhere to proofreading directions that are explicit for each product.
-Proofchecking final pages to ensure that all marked changes have been successfully made and new errors have not been introduced.
-Formatting MS Word documents according to the dictates of RAND document templates and importing components of Excel and PowerPoint files as required.
-Formatting files to adhere to 508 compliance regulations for the disabled.
-Typesetting research reports using department InDesign template using copy imported from MS Word using a predefined workflow.
Qualifications
-Comprehensive knowledge of Mac and PC usage, including excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Adobe Acrobat.
-Knowledge of publishing industry.
-Knowledge of page-layout technology.
-The ability to work well in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment as part of a production team.
-Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to proofread and format long documents according to house style.
Special Note
This is a part-time position for 30 hours a week with a term limit of 1 year.
