The Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an individual for a Research Engineer position in the area of trustworthy computing, computer security and privacy. This engineer’s initial work would be focused on working with researchers in the area of data security and privacy on a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to develop technologies in a variety of areas, including detecting code-injection attacks, tracking access and modifications to sensitive data, and blocking leakage of data from secured resources. This individual will work as a Research Engineer under the High Performance Computing group within RENCI and in frequent collaborations with Principal Investigators within the Department of Computer Science at UNC. It is expected that the individual will develop future collaborations and research efforts in areas that build upon the initial grant-funded work.
MS or Ph.D. preferred; BS in Computer Science required with 3 or more years relevant experience
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems development. Experience with Microsoft Windows driver frameworks preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
2 years software design and development experience for large, complex systems
Expert C/C++ coding skills
Working knowledge of Python
Working knowledge of networking and distributed systems fundamentals
Working knowledge of hypervisors and virtualization technologies
