As the first Chinese bank to receive a banking license in the United States since the implementation of the Foreign Bank Supervision Enhancement Act of 1991, the CMB New York Branch secures a position as the bridge between clients in China and the United States.  The New York Branch, which commenced business operations in the Fall of 2008, establishes a global presence for China Merchants Bank. 

This exciting position at the New York Branch reports to the Chief Risk Officer.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Chief Risk Officer to ensure that credit risk is fully understood and managed appropriately by the New York Branch

• Responsible for reviewing credit applications, ensuring their accuracy and completeness, approving (at the level of delegated authority), and providing recommendations to the General Manager and to the Credit Risk Management Committee, as appropriate

• Upgrade and align Branch internal risk rating system to that of Head Office

• Maintain and manage Branch’s Credit Policy and Procedures manual; work closely with Head Office on credit risk policies and procedures, and support Head Office efforts to oversee the sound management of the Bank

• Oversight for Treasury middle office

• Manage non-performing assets and loan workouts

• Serve as credit risk subject matter expert to external regulators, auditors and agencies

• Perform risk assessment at intake and on an annual basis for Branch outsourced and vendor relationships

• Attend annual BSA/AML training program, assume responsibility, as appropriate, to report suspicious activity to BSA/AML Officer

• Monitor security events and logs for the Branch’s network as well as critical application systems

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA a plus

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial and corporate lending, experience as credit approver required

• Fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin required

• Proven strong analytical and credit risk assessment skills. Formal bank credit training a plus

• Experience in different industries and in cross border market practices

• Trade finance and treasury product knowledge preferred

• Strong collaboration and personal leadership skills with the ability to influence others.

• Able to prioritize and multi-task, demonstrates flexibility and acceptability

• Able to make and defend decisions with keen sense of judgment

• Proven experience in working in a team environment

• Willingness to take initiative
