Risk Reporting – Analyst/Associate recruitment

Morgan Stanley seeks a risk management professional for a role in the Market Risk Department (MRD). MRD provides independent market risk oversight across the Firm’s trading and investment activity.

The individual will report to the EMEA Head of Market Risk Reporting in London. The role involves a diverse range of risk management responsibilities across businesses. To be successful, candidates will need relevant experience, a strong desire to learn, and the ability to work on a small multidisciplinary team.

Primary job responsibilities include:
• Develop and produce risk reports used extensively by market risk managers, business units, and senior management.
• Construct presentations used to brief senior business managers and the Board of Directors.
• Work with internal and external clients on ad-hoc data requests and analyses.
• Engage risk managers and data quality groups to identify and resolve issues that impact market risk calculations.
• Represent MRD to many different areas of the Firm.
• Coordinate with IT on the development of risk system and data standard requirements.

Risk analysis produced by MRD is used to brief senior management and needs to be both timely and accurate. It is therefore essential that candidates perform diligently and efficiently to meet daily deadlines.

Strong quantitative and investigative skills are critical to understanding MRD processes (e.g. VaR, scenarios and regulatory capital), conducting analysis to draw conclusions and effectively communicating results.

Skills Required:

The role involves close work with several other areas such as Business Units, Controllers, and Risk Technology. The candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to develop quality working relationships.

Strong proficiency with Excel and VBA is required; a working knowledge of databases and SQL is advantageous; more generally, the candidate needs to be comfortable using many tools to obtain and understand risk information.

Knowledge of financial products is essential, including an understanding of risk greek representations. A solid understanding of risk management concepts such as VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis, and capital is ideal.

Suitable candidates will have an excellent academic background, including a degree in a quantitative discipline, such as economics, finance, sciences or engineering.

Skills Desired:

Higher degrees or other qualifications related to any of the above areas will be advantageous. Experience in market risk management or a market-risk-related function like regulatory/product control or risk consulting will be useful.
