Summary: Performs the primary function of a Registered Professional Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating a designated group of patients in accordance with all established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. Is responsible for managing all assigned personal supplies, equipment on the unit, and for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Directs all care to team members. 5% 2. Acts as a patient liaison and advocate. 5% 3. Assures proper documentation. 15% a. Documents assessments. b. Initiates protocols or care paths. c. Formulates, updates, and revises treatment plans. 4. Participates in discharge planning: 5% a. Identifies home educational needs. b. Instructs and educates patients to diet, medications, activities, follow-up care etc. c. Completes discharge instructions with the patient. 5. Assures orders are processed as follows: 5% a. Checks initial orders and initiates the orders as directed. Monitors for additional orders in FirstNet. Documents completion of orders. 6. Performs initial and continuous patient assessment: 20% a. Communicates the interpretation of lab data, EKG's, etc. b. Consults with physician. b. Makes patient rounds. d. Manages patient's admission, discharge or transfer through system. e. Reviews drug therapy. f. Assesses ADL's g. Coordinates administration of treatments between disciplines. 7. Coordinates all aspects of patient care, including planning, intervention, education, and evaluation: 20% a. Develops, maintains, and applies age-specific knowledge relevant to the care of the patient population served. b. Inserts and removes NG tube, catheters, drains. c. Documents IO. d. Administers medications and documents response. d. Initiates blood and blood products. e. Perform IV insertions, troubleshooting and maintenance. f. Accesses and flushes venous access devices. g. Applies splints. h. Performs staple removal. i. Participates in STAT team response. j. Provides patient education. 8. Performs team leader duties: 5% a. Supervises team members. b. Supervises nursing students, PCT's . c. Interprets Hospital Policy for team members. c. Participates as member of various nursing or interdisciplinary committee meetings as requested. d. Assists in providing adequate staffing. e. Participates with Standards development. f. Assigns care of patients according to department policy. 9. Assists with the education of staff and staff development: 5% a. Develops and educates staff. b. Orients and precepts new employees. c. Mentors nursing students d. Participates in performance monitoring (peer review). 10. Participates in continuing education activities relevant to Nursing Practice. 5% 11. Performs other work duties as assigned: 5% Total: 100%

Required Experience:
1. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri. 2. BLS for Healthcare Providers is required. If not present upon hire, must be successfully completed within 90 days. 3. ACLS certification is required. If not present upon hire, must be successfully completed within 90 days. (Fellowship RN must successfully complete within one year). 4. PALS or ENPC certification is required. If not present upon hire, must be successfully completed within one year. (Fellowship RN must successfully complete within two years). Interaction with patients will take into consideration the specific age-related needs of the patient. The Emergency Department may provide care to Neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults

Required Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
