The RN Manager, Patient Care oversees the daily operations to meet the patient care needs of the surgical acute unit.  Maintains 24-hour accountability for department management with assistance from clinical leader or charge nurse.  Manage the overall quality patient care and collaborates with the leadership team, staff and physicians to create a positive work environment, accomplish Scripps Health goals and maintain quality patient care.  Maintain adequate staffing and provides an environment for staff and facilitate sufficient training to perform well in their jobs. Collaborates with Director in evaluation of departmental performance based on established metrics and develops action plans to address opportunities for improvement.  In conjunction with Human Resources Department, interviews and selects candidates for employment.  With support of Director, initiates and approves personnel activities including, but not limited to hiring, transferring, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and terminating. In conjunction with the Supervisors, establishes and communicates performance expectations and assists with development of personal and professional goals of staff.

Current CA Registered Nurse license.  Minimum of 3-5 years in a management position in a hospital setting.  Requires clinical experience in surgery. BLS for Health Care Providers through the American Heart Association upon hire. BSN or Bachelors Degree in a healthcare related field preferred.  Masters Degree preferred. Experience in Performance Improvement preferred.
