Design Group Staffing has been contracted by an established company to identify, evaluate and place an Engineering Supervisor professional who will stand out amongst their peers and who are seeking career growth opportunities. Our client provides architectural glazing services.

 

Description

The Engineering Supervisor is primarily responsible for managing the team that provides design, engineering and drafting support for the company, project management team and fabrication facility in a manner focused on effective design, quality driven (error free) and in a timely manner. Provide clean, accurate and timely designs. Manage the activities of the staff engineers and drafting team including quality control and build libraries of design details.

 

Major Responsibilities  

·         Implement a quality control process and protocol to ensure drawings and product releases are accurate, error free and with proper sign off and approval.

·         Manage and coordinate the activities of the team of people in the engineering department including performance evaluations, ensuring they support and adhere to changes made and policies defined.

·         Engineering Supervisor to manage department resources but also be hands on and complete some of the work directly.

·         Advanced 2D AutoCad 2011 and subsequent versions in the future. Engineering Supervisor to also recommend new technologies and implement those selected including CNC transfer software, BIM or 3D.

·         Prepare layouts, concept/shop drawings for submission, ensuring they pass QC protocol at all times.

·         Generate fabrication drawings to be issued to the shop floor and prepare drawing/parts parts list as req'd.

·         Provide bills of material for supplies that are required to physically install the material in the field.

·         Attend design, project meetings and project turnover meetings to ensure input information is correct.

·         Source parts and material from available literature, database and suppliers. Ensure the organization is constantly at the forefront of new technologies, designs, systems available etc.

·         Assist with the preparation of proposals as required.

·         Conduct research into the feasibility and design of structural mechanics, components, and systems.

·         Analyze the dynamics of small to large scale structures and advise of errors, improvements, that can be made to initial design parameters provided by General Contract and/or architects.

·         Preparing or evaluating technical proposals including RFI's, SI's, change orders etc required.

·         Comprehensive understanding accurate interpretation of architectural drawings and specifications

·         Build / contribute to library of extrusions and fabrication details and ensure this is managed/protected.

·         Proper storage of files - both paper and electronic

·         Manage the activities on a cost effective basis for external or third party design activities or professional engineering design and stamps required.

 

Education Training  

·         A recognized university degree or college diploma focused on construction, engineering or architecture.

·         Mechanical drafting diploma or equivalent is preferred.

·         Specific training and excellent skills related to design and construction.

·         Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.

 

Experience  

·         Min. 12 years experience in engineering, design and drafting and with 2D AutoCAD or higher version

·         Min. 10 years exposure and experience within the glazing industry with a keen understanding of key suppliers, activities and construction methodology for glazing.

·         Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

·         Strong IT, software and hardware management skills.

·         Excellent organizational skills; detail oriented; analytical; creative thinker.

Decisions often affect the organizations operational performance. Engineering activities are complex and often require alignment and finding inconsistencies between drawings and specifications.

    

Supervisory Management Responsibility  

Provides indirect supervision to Fabricating and Project Management. Liaise with Estimating, Project Management, and some employees doing skilled or difficult work. Broadly impacts many other positions through progressive flow/sharing of information.

 

Independence of Action 

Employee works independently on general assignments. Position required to co-ordinate various related activities of other work units. Reporting to Operations Manager and employee refers matters concerning policy change to President.

Errors may have a high impact and continuing influence on the current and future operations of the organization.
