Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

To support the growth of Canadian Natural's Horizon Oil Sands, this position may be assigned or require business travel to various contractor workplaces during project phases for extended periods. Domestic locations may include Edmonton, Alberta and Vancouver, British Columbia.  International locations may include Europe, Asia and the United States.

Position Summary

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Be part of the exciting growth and expansion of the Horizon Oil Sands.  With your contribution we will see incremental production gains to approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate plant capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.
The Rotating Equipment Engineer will have overall responsibility for the integrity of rotating equipment for the Horizon Site, and will play a vital role in ensuring best practice during plant expansion at the Horizon Oil Sands.

  •  Responsible for improving long term machinery reliability by applying industry best practices

  •  Provide technical support in selecting materials and prescribing specifications for repairs, redesign, and alterations of rotating equipment installations

  •  Perform project reviews for technical acceptance of new mechanical equipment purchases and ensure conformance with applicable company and international industry standards

    HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?

  •  Provide technical support and consultation in field rotating equipment issues

  •  Diagnose and evaluate rotating equipment vibration problems

  •  Communicate with vendors on rotating equipment warranty issues

  •  Support the installation of new rotating equipment, including pre-commissioning and commissioning activities

  •  Review of all datasheets and RFQs (Requests for Quotations)

  •  Witnessing test runs

  •  Vendor coordination

  •  Identify and rectify problems during startup and troubleshoot phases

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Typically 5+ years of related industry experience coupled with Engineering Degree/Technologist Certification

  •  Registration or eligibility for provincial registration with APEGA

  •  Familiarity with and understanding of different types of API (American Petroleum Institute)/non API and ANSI (American National Standard Institute) rotating equipment, mechanical seals, API mechanical seal plans, and mechanical seal failure diagnostics
