Job Description
Shadow Health is seeking Ruby on Rails Developers to join our development team in a hard-working and creative environment. You can help build the next-generation of Shadow Health products and platform, create web applications and be a part of a team that is working to changing the direction of education.
Shadow Health will accept non-locals and aid is provided by the employer for relocation.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop production-ready web software based on a Ruby on Rails stack
- Implement web interfaces using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Build interactive analytics reporting tools
Skills Requirements
Qualifications:
- Comfortable developing for our software stack, which consists of Ruby/Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Heroku, Resque, Redis, Git, Rspec, Javascript, and Backbone.js
- A passion for clean, test-driven and well-documented code.
- Agile/Scrum development experience is preferred
- 2-5 years experience with web application development preferred.
- Experience with start-up companies or a start-up environment is a plus
- Skill with CSS, HTML 5, JavaScript and AJAX is preferred
- Experience with MySQL and database design is also preferred
- Ability to adapt and learn new languages
- A degree in computer science or equivalent program is preferred but not required
- Experience with developing for iOS and Android platforms a plus.

Shadow Health is what you get when you mashup healthcare, education, and 3D simulation
(aka video games) into a single awesome startup. Our software is the result of 7 years of research on virtual patients conducted at University of Florida’s CS department. We were founded in June 2011 in Gainesville, FL, and have spent the past year building a virtual patient simulation for training nursing students.
Our virtual patients are built on the Unity3D game engine and include a custom animation system and a natural language conversation engine. We deliver the simulation over a Ruby on Rails web app, which records and analyzes all the student’s actions with the virtual patient. As a matter of fact...we just launched our product this Fall with much fanfare to 6 nursing schools (over 200 students) across the country. Things are going great for us - we have over 1.5M in funding and are generating revenue... and students and faculty love us!
