Safety Manager
Job Description We currently have an immediate need for an experienced Safety Manager to join our project team. The team is working on large scale flood recovery works across SE QLD. This position will report to the Program Manager and is responsible for leading the safety team to ensure consistent high level safety compliance exists across the program. This role will be looking after the safety on 2 major projects, one based in Toowoomba, the other in Ipswich. You will be working from our Toowoomba office 50% of the time, the other 50% you will be based in our Brisbane office. To be successful in this role you will have superior written and verbal communication skills with an ability to drive a strong safety culture across the program by utilising your infectious passion for safety and Zero Harm. Key responsibilities: - Encourage and drive a Zero Harm working culture for all personnel onsite; - Establish and develop productive relationships both internally and externally; - Develop and communicate to all parties the program safety management system (SMS) and objectives; - Ensure the program SMS is regularly evaluated and improved throughout the life of the program to maintain best practice and compliance with relevant legislation and standards; - Support all management and staff in delivering Zero Harm through mentoring and coaching; - Conduct observations and audits (site and desktop) as required to identify opportunities for improvement in relation to site and traffic safety; - Ensure contractor and program incident investigations are conducted as required; - Create regular safety reports for distribution to clients, management, staff and contractors using program safety data, - Manage resources in place to ensure program safety objectives and requirements are being met by contractors and staff; - Conduct safety training and inductions as required; - Attend regular site and office based meetings, toolbox's and workshops; - Support the Program Manager as required. Skills and experience required: - Minimum 3+ years in a similar position in the civil construction industry with experience in a roadwork environment; - Minimum Certificate IV qualification in OHS and Training and Assessment; - Current First Aid certificate; - TMR Traffic Management Level 3 4 qualified; - Lead auditor qualification preferred; - Strong understanding of industry standards, legislative and other WHS requirements (including the MUTCD) for high risk construction work on or near roads e.g. mobile plant, working at heights, excavation etc; - Superior communication skills (both written and verbal); - Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing health and safety programs; - Demonstrated leadership skills in relation to a safety team; - Advanced computer skills.
