SCA Engineering Tech 4 Job in Patuxent River, Maryland US
Supports aircraft prototype efforts at the Aircraft Prototype Systems Division (APSD) at NAWCAD Patuxent River, MD. Repairs, fabricates, modifies and installs sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies. Fabricates complex aircraft parts and components from stock sheet metal, bar and round stock, and extrusion. Will perform wide variety of functions within the APSD Paint Shop as required to include all phases of component preparation to properly apply industrial and aircraft finishes on aircraft components. Utilizes knowledge to ensure proper selection of mil spec primers, top coatings and finishes. Supports project engineering and customers by advising on all matters regarding aircraft component coatings and finishes. Will estimate and track cost and schedule of each effort. Manages multiple projects through ability to multi-task and set priorities. Will proactively procure and store materials. Sets up, maintains and operates spray booths and ovens. Adheres to all OSHA, NIOSH and other applicable regulations regarding PPE (respirators, eye protection) and Hazardous Waste to include disposal of materials. Follows all Mil Standards applicable to management and operation of military aircraft Paint Shop.
- Must be able to work independently and possess good problem solving skills.
- Ability to use aircraft manuals and engineering drawings in the fabrication and installation of fabricated assemblies.
- Must possess good computer skills.
- Expertise is required in the set up and operation of power shears, CNC press brakes, rollers, drill presses, saws, portable power tools, and other metal working equipment and tool common to the trade.
- This position will be the primary back-up within the APSD Paint Shop.
- As such, it will require the use of sandblast cabinets, sanders and various hand tools.
- The applicant must be physically capable of using various types of respirator equipment.
- A thorough knowledge of hazmat and hazardous waste procedures will be required.
- The applicant must possess a valid driver's license and be capable of acquiring a secret security clearance.
Qualifications
- Applicant must have a minimum of 6 years performing stated functions with practical experience in all functions stated above. In lieu of post-high school education/training, a total of 8 years experience in performing the stated functions.
- Military aircraft structures and mechanical systems; physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal; application of industrial and aircraft finishes, to include, polyurethane, epoxies and lacquers.
- Applicants must be familiar with applicable Mil. Specs and the proper preparation methods used for various materials to be painted.
Must demonstrate ability to independently perform all functions.
