SEASONAL YARD CLERK TRAINEE/BRIDGETENDER-MILWAUKEE, WI

EXPECTED DURATION: 6-12 MONTHS

JOB DESCRIPTION

Yard clerical duties, driving and janitorial duties as assigned.
Position provides documentation to train crews as directed by Yardmaster; check yards line up inventory as required; transports crews, opens bridges and operates related controls as required; deliver supplies; other duties as assigned
The Bridgetender is in charge of and responsible for the safe operation of the bridge to which he/she is assigned.
The Bridgetender shall record in a log book each movement of the span and the date, time, and name of the vessel and direction of passage.
Perform bridge maintenance to movable bridge operating components and other basic maintenance.
Safety sensitive environment - working around heavy moving equipment.
This is a high risk environment. An emphasis on safety is critical for all employees. Employees must remain focused at all times and be willing to work in a team environment.
Personal protective equipment provided including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hi-visibility vests, other as required for job function.
Employees must provide their own Safety Boots.
Outdoor work environment - working on railway bridges with exposure to all weather conditions such as rain, direct sunlight and snow.
Must be comfortable working on a structure at heights with proper fall protection equipment.
Work is seasonal and employees are called in seniority order as and when required.
Employees may be trained on and required to work more than one bridge.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must be willing to work at heights (bridges, ladders, roofs).
Outdoor work experience.
Experience in a safety sensitive environment preferred.
Able to work under high stress situations for extended periods.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must be able to converse proficiently in English language skills using radio and telephone operations.
Must be proficient in the use of common hand and power tools.
Must be able to work any of 3 shifts
Must have valid driver's license to operate company vehicles
Computer experience preferred
25 wpm typing speed required

No formal discipline within last 24 months worked.
Maintained a proven safety record within last 24 months worked.
In addition, employees may apply for the position provided they have held their current position for a minimum period of one year.
